So it is one title in the bag for Manchester United and Jose Mourinho after they edged out a dramatic late win against Southampton at Wembley in the EFL Cup Final on Sunday. Ladbrokes have rated Manchester United 14/1 to land a treble in what would be a some return from the Portuguese manager’s first year in charge of the Red Devils.
Manchester United though, put in a dreadful performance at Wembley and Southampton were denied a clear goal for an erroneous offside goal. The Saints then pulled themselves back level from 2-0 despite being the better side in the game but then up popped Zlatan Ibrahimovic close to the final whistle to save the day for United.
Manchester United still have big ambitions in the FA CUp and the Europa League as well now and prior to their EFL Cup title, they were 28/1 to land a treble this season. But when you can win trophies without playing well, imagine what they will be able to do if they get themselves together. In the Europa League, they have received another comfortable draw as they take on Russian side Rostov.
There is a much tougher challenge ahead of them on the domestic front in the FA Cup as they have to take a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea. The Red Devils were hammered 4-0 there in the Premier League earlier this season. But what will throw huge doubt into this one is that the trip to Russia to face Rostov in the Europa League last sixteen, comes just four days before they go to Stamford Bridge for their FA Cup challenge. As you can imagine, Mourinho wasn’t happy.
