Manchester United v Manchester City Betting Preview – EFL Cup 26th October

So we have a Manchester derby in the fourth round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night and this is starting look very important for both clubs. Manchester City are the reigning champions in the competition of course and they would like their second win at Old Trafford this season to arrest a drop in form. City are without a win in their last five games in all competitions but landed a 2-1 win at Old Trafford earlier in the season. Manchester United need a big shake up after their humiliating loss at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea on the weekend. Who will come out on top?

Manchester United v Manchester City Betting Tips

An interesting Manchester derby for the EFL Cup, made even more interesting because neither United or City are in particularly good form right now. The Red devils have bagged a win in just one of their last four played while City have remained winless in their last five across all captions. So it’s not happening for either at the moment and this is a chance to snap back to winning ways at the expense of a bitter rival. So the tie looks more important than it did when it was pulled out of the hat. The two have already met at Old Trafford this season with City taking a 2-1 win there after totally dominating the first half of the match, when United decided to be really passive about their approach to the game. Both teams were on the scoresheet for the game, and it’s worth going with that again, because neither are particularly trustworthy at the back. Manchester United have won only one of their last six home derby matches now against City and have just a W1 D1 L2 record in their last four.

So United were humiliated by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the big Premier League meeting with Chelsea on the weekend, so one wonders where next for Jose Mourinho? They do look to be running without much of a game plan and the players don’t seem to be fighting for much at the moment. They aren’t likely to get much rewards against City by sitting back and handing the hosts the ball. So you can probably expect some goals in this one and going over 2.5 goals will be a nice punt of even money on the game. The Red Devils have managed to net just the one goal in their last three domestic games now, which was in a home draw with Stoke. United did have a comfortable time in the last round of the EFL Cup with a 3-1 away win at Northampton, but they aren’t appealing to punters at the moment. Mourinho may have to go with a strong side here, so Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who had no service on Sunday, is a 6/4 anytime goalscorer option with Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford at 2/1.

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero is in need of a goal and he is a 13/10 price to stick one in the back of the net. Manchester City had another frustrating draw on their hands on the weekend as they played out a draw with Southampton at the Etihad. So the Citizens have only gone W0 D3 L2 record in their last five in all competitions and the last two draws have been a 1-1 scoreline which is a price of 5/1 to happen again for them (90 minutes). Guardiola’s tactics will eventually pay off again as they were in the big ten match winning streak they had from the start of the season. The Citizens are a big 15/4 shot to win to nil in this one, because of the lack of clean sheets that they have taken across all competitions this term. So instead look for the 4/5 quote on both teams to score in this one. This is a bit of a high pressure game for both City and United at the moment. Who will take a run through to the next round of the EFL Cup?

Manchester United v Manchester City Predictions

Tough game to call because there will likely be changes made to the regular starting elevens. This isn’t a high priority for either really. Both have strangely fallen out form, but the Citizens look the less vulnerable of the two and they have been scoring goals. They will have more options in depth to call upon than United will, so look for both teams to score in the clash, but for City to take the win.
