Brighton stormed through to the second round of the League Cup (now named the EFL Cup) following a 4-0 home win over Colchester United at their AMEX Stadium and they’ll be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the new season on Friday evening when they take on Nottingham Forest.
Brighton earned a valuable point away at Derby County at the iPro Stadium last weekend in a 0-0 stalemate, but Brighton boss Chris Hughton will be delighted that his side have kept back-to-back clean sheets in their opening two matches of the season.
The Seagulls have lost just once at home in their last 13 matches overall (which was a 1-0 loss to Italian Serie A side Lazio in a pre-season friendly), while it’s 11 matches without defeat on home turf in the Championship.
Visitors Nottingham Forest have started their new campaign in positive fashion having secured back-to-back wins against east midlands rivals Burton Albion on the weekend with a high-scoring 4-3 win which was followed up by a 2-1 win away at Doncaster Rovers in the League Cup during the week.
Forest dispensed with the services of former manager Dougie Freedman back in March, but to be fair, Freedman was without their leading goalscorer Britt Assombalonga for the majority of their last campaign, while Assombalonga has now returned to the fold after a lengthy injury.
Assombalonga scored a brace against Burton Albion and if the Tricky Trees can keep him fit during this campaign, then the visitors have a chance of making the play-offs.
