Friday night brings us action from the Championship and a top five encounter between 5th placed QPR and 3rd placed Reading who have made early claims for a possible play-off place come the end of the season, and QPR will be looking to post back to back wins, while Reading will be keen to extend their unbeaten run in the Championship to four matches overall.

QPR Preview – Can R’s continue winning momentum?

Recent back to back wins in the Championship against Bristol City and Sheffield United, both of which were away from home, have helped QPR maintain their early bid for a top six finish at the end of the season and the hosts will be looking for more of the same on Friday night when they entertain Reading at Loftus Road.

Indeed, QPR have won three out of their last four games in the English second tier which includes a 2-0 win away at London rivals, Millwall, while the bigger picture shows that The R’s have suffered just the one defeat out of their last eight matches overall, that being a 1-0 loss away at Swansea City, but they’ve also picked up five wins within this period as well.

It’s certainly been an encouraging start to this season’s Championship campaign for QPR but the hosts know only too well that promising starts to a season hold no guarantees of success, but having lost just once in their opening five games on home soil at Loftus Road whilst picking up wins against Middlesbrough and Hull City, The R’s stand a good chance of securing a result here on Friday night.

In addition, QPR have lost just five out of their last 16 matches at home in the Championship which consists of six wins, one of which was a comprehensive 4-0 rout of Friday’s visitors, Reading, in the previous home meeting between the two teams back in January of last season, and the hosts will be confident they can strike again on Friday.

QPR manager, Michael Beale, may have to do without midfielder Taylor Richards who is sidelined for this clash, while defender Nicholas Hamaleinen is rated as doubtful for Friday night’s encounter, but striker Chris Willock (6 goals) will be keen to add to his goal tally here.

Reading Preview – Can The Royals draw level on points at top?

Reading also bring some encouraging form into this Friday night’s Championship tussle in the nation’s capital as the visitors have put together a three-match unbeaten run into this encounter on the back of wins against Wigan Athletic and Huddersfield Town along with a solid point in a 1-1 draw at home with Norwich City.

Reading have won seven of their 11 matches so far in this season’s campaign and although they have also lost four games as well, the wins have been enough to lift Reading up into early contention for a possible top six finish come the end of the season, and indeed, another three points at Loftus Road would see The Royals draw level on points with the league leaders, Sheffield United.

However, three of these four defeats that Reading have experienced so far in this season’s campaign were handed to The Royals away from home in the shape of defeats incurred at Blackpool, Rotherham United and Sheffield United, but the visitors have picked up wins at Millwall and Wigan Athletic on their travels as well.

Results away from home though have been a cause for concern for Paul Ince’s side as the Berkshire outfit have stumbled to three defeats in their opening five away games of this new term and their previous 4-0 rout at the hands of QPR in their last visit to Loftus Road may still be fresh in their minds.

The bigger picture shows Reading have managed to collect just four wins out of their last 18 outings on the road and includes no fewer than 11 defeats as well, so Reading may well have their work cut out here on Friday night, as results away from home have hampered The Royals in previous outings.
