Football – England – Championship Betting Tips

Sunday lunchtime brings us the final day of the season in the Championship with quite a few teams’ hopes hinging on results of some key fixtures today, not least Birmingham City, who, along with Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers, will be fighting it out to avoid the trap-door to League One.

Bristol City play host to Birmingham City as The Robins look for a fifth win from six matches following recent wins over Wolves, QPR, Barnsley and most impressive of all, a 1-0 win away at Championship leaders Brighton.

Bristol City’s overall home record stands at  11-4-7 33/25 which at first glance doesn’t appear to be too impressive, but they hold a good record of  7-1-2  16/10 at home against bottom half opposition so far this season. In their ranks, they also possess dangerous teenage striker Tammy Abraham who has netted 23 goals to date.

Visitors Birmingham City were handed a vital lifeline last weekend when they registered a 2-0 win over play-off occupants Huddersfield Town who were roundly criticised for sending out a weakened side, but then the same criticism could be aimed at Birmingham’s fierce rivals Aston Villa who lost 1-0 away at Blackburn Rovers – but that’s another story.

Anyway, of the three teams battling against relegation, Birmingham appear to be in the best position ahead of this final day as they hold a two point cushion over Nottingham Forest and Blackburn respectively. There are so many permutations, but goal difference could come into play, and if this does, then Birmingham’s Championship days could be numbered. But that’s if both Forest and Blackburn win of course!

Harry Redknapp faces his toughest challenge yet, but has instilled new confidence at The Blues after what has been a harrowing second half to this Championship season for the west midlands club, but he did achieve their first win in 10 league matches against The Terriers!

Birmingham possess a pretty average away record of  4-9-9 19/33, while the story doesn’t get any better away at bottom half opponents with a record of  0-5-5  7/15, but playing away from their expectant St Andrews crowd today could actually help them here.
