Football – England – Championship Betting Tips

The curtain comes down on the Championship season on Saturday evening in what promises to be an intriguing finale to the campaign with a massive windfall to the victors in what has been billed the biggest game at domestic level, perhaps in the world (aside from the Champions League).

Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday will battle it out at Wembley for a chance of returning to the big-time and to once again rub shoulders against the best teams.

Let’s take a look at Hull City first; Hull held on against Derby County in the end in their play-off semi-final despite taking what looked a commanding 3-0 lead into the second leg at their KC Stadium following their emphatic win at Derby’s iPro Stadium.

However, Derby County stormed back in the second leg and took a 2-0 lead but The Rams were unable to force the game into extra-time. Hull boss Steve Bruce would have been disappointed in the manner in which The Tigers almost surrendered their 3-0 cushion, so there will have been plenty of defensive work conducted on the training ground since I daresay!

Hull have lost just twice in their last nine matches overall in the Championship while striker Hernandez (21 goals) has been a revelation for The Tigers this season, and he’s been well supported by the likes of midfielders Diame (9 goals), Clucas (6 goals) and creative midfielder Snodgrass (4 goals).

Sheffield Wednesday exemplified the perfect way to win a Championship play-off semi-final recently as The Owls beat Brighton 3-1 on aggregate, winning 2-0 in the first leg at Hillsborough, and then holding The Seagulls to a 1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium in the second leg.

Wednesday have been well marshalled by their manager Carlos Carvalhal this season and his influence has assisted in The Owls tightening up their defensive unit considerably which in turn has produced a serious challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

Sheffield Wednesday have also lost just twice in their last nine in the Championship although their results have been dominated by four draws during this sequence – with five of these last nine matches resulting in under 2.5 goals.

Essentially, this is an away game for both sides and with this particular match carrying the extra huge weight of Premier League football and the tv revenue that goes along with it, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a tight and cautious encounter at Wembley.
