Hull City bounced back from three matches without a win in the Championship on Saturday when they beat struggling Bolton Wanderers 1-0 at their KC Stadium to jump back up into third place, and they now host Reading on Wednesday night as they go in search of back-to-back wins.

Depending on Middlesbrough’s match with Burnley on Tuesday night, all three points for The Tigers against Reading could see them leapfrog Boro into second spot behind league leaders Brighton, and given Hull’s solid form on home turf this season, this may well not be out of the question.

A record of  7-2-1  17/5 is a great record to have when you’re wanting to make the most of your home games, and manager Steve Bruce must be delighted with his team’s stingy defensive record which has seen Hull achieve six clean sheets to date with only Middlesbrough having a better defensive record at home in the Championship so far.

Visitors Reading have dropped to a mid-table position following three Championship defeats on the trot but they remain just four points adrift of sixth placed Ipswich Town in what is a very congested top half in the division.

Defeats to Nottingham Forest, QPR and Preston North End have prevented The Royals from making an impact upon the play-off pack for the time being and this has resulted in manager Steve Clark being shown the door with Martin Kuhl taking over the reigns at the Madejski Stadium.

Reading’s away record reads a fairly ordinary  3-2-5  13/16 and is certainly not the kind of record you need if you’re chasing at least a play-off spot which I daresay is the minimum requirement for the Berkshire-based side.

In short, Hull should win this one quite comfortably, with perhaps a 1-0 or 2-0 margin.
