Leeds United’s fortunes have definitely taken a turn for the better under the guidance of new manager Steve Evans as they’ve now put together a five-match unbeaten run in the Championship following a point away at Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day.
Recent wins over Hull City, Wolves and Preston North End have lifted Leeds away from the bottom region of the division, but they’ll face perhaps their biggest test yet at Elland Road this evening when they take on second placed Derby County.
Leeds’ overall home record stands at 3-3-5 8/12 despite winning three of their last four on home turf, while their record at home against top half teams reads a so-so 2-3-2 7/7. Strikers Wood and Antenucci are the danger men up front for the hosts tonight.
Visitors Derby County’s lead at the top of the Championship has been usurped by Middlesbrough’s 1-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday on Monday night, but The Rams can claim top spot again with a win in Yorkshire tonight.
Derby have also been in impressive form of late in the English second tier as they’ve put together a three-match winning streak with victories over Bristol City, Ipswich Town and Fulham, scoring 7 goals and conceding none, while their away record stands at a solid-looking 6-4-1 12/5.
Their one defeat was in the east midlands derby away at Nottingham Forest but subsequent wins at Hull City and Ipswich Town prove they can get results at some of the stronger teams in the Championship. Midfielder Ince and forwards Martin and Russell should create plenty of goalscoring opportunities for The Rams tonight.
