Middlesbrough will be keen to return to winning ways in the Championship following recent back-to-back defeats to Bristol City and Nottingham Forest as they prepare for the visit of under-performing Blackburn Rovers at the Riverside Stadium this afternoon.

Middlesbrough are still just one point adrift of league leaders Hull City as Boro are situated in one of the automatic promotion spots, but with Burnley breathing down their necks, Boro will be keen to add a further three points to their tally here today as their home record is an impressive one.

Boro’s home record stands at  10-2-2  20/3 as they possess the best defensive record on home turf in the Championship keeping a total of no fewer than 11 clean sheets from their 14 home matches to date which is an amazing feat.

Visitors Blackburn Rovers earned a point in a 1-1 draw away at Charlton Athletic last time out in the Championship, but the fact remains that Rovers have now gone seven matches without a win in the English second tier which has resulted in Blackburn slipping down the league table to a disappointing 18th place.

It’s perhaps no surprise that Blackburn’s fortunes have dwindled with the recent transfer of leading goalscorer Jordan Rhodes to today’s opponents Middlesbrough with Rovers now unsure of where their goals will come from.

Blackburn’s away record stands at  3-5-6  12/15 and they’re without a win from their last four away trips having lost three of these with defeats at Reading, Bolton Wanderers and Cardiff City (two of these opponents are in the bottom half of the Championship).
