Although Reading were dumped out of the FA Cup at the third round stage on the weekend when they were handed a 4-0 thrashing away at Premier League Manchester City, The Royals have been flying high in the Championship and they return to action at their Madejski Stadium on Thursday night to take on beleaguered QPR.
Reading come into this match having won their last three Championship matches on the trot with wins over Blackburn Rovers, Norwich City and Bristol City as they now sit in third place and can reduce the points deficit from Newcastle United to three points with a win this evening.
Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam has turned the Berkshire outfit around in dramatic fashion, and their home form has been impressive with a record of 8-3-1 20/9 on home turf following five straight wins on the trot recently.
Visitors QPR were also sent packing early from the FA Cup as they crashed out to Blackburn Rovers in a 2-1 defeat at Loftus Road, and they face another tough prospect in Reading when they make their way to the Madejski Stadium on Thursday night.
Former manager and player Ian Holloway has returned to The R’s following the departure of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, and Holloway has recently crafted back-to-back wins for QPR against Wolves (away) and Ipswich Town (at home).
QPR’s away record stands at 4-2-6 12/17 and still requires improvement, and although they did beat Wolves and Ipswich recently, both of these teams are currently sitting in the bottom half of the Championship.
