SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY v READING

Football – England – Championship

Saturday 20th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to build upon their recent 2-0 away win at Birmingham City on Tuesday night when they return to their Hillsborough ground on Saturday to take on Reading who occupy one of the play-off places.

Wednesday have lost just once in the Championship this season so far and that was a 0-1 reverse at home to Nottingham Forest, but aside from that, The Owls have recorded good away wins over Brighton 1-0, Middlesbrough 3-2 and Birmingham City 2-0 and they’ll be keen to transfer their away form now onto home turf with the visit of Reading.

Sheffield Wednesday have failed to win at home in their last seven matches, but three of these have been draws against Blackburn Rovers, Derby County and Millwall. their anytime goalscorers look likely to be Nuhiu, May and Maguire and they also have striker Madine coming off the bench also.

Visitors Reading currently sit one place and one point above today’s hosts in sixth place but this has been largely down to their home form where they’ve won three of their first four at the Madejski Stadium.

The Royals have chalked up three straight wins going into today’s match with good results over Middlesbrough 1-0, Fulham 3-0 and Millwall 3-2, the latter two being at home. On the road, Reading have been less consistent having produced a win (at Middlesbrough), draw (at Wigan Athletic) and a defeat (at Nottingham Forest) so far on their travels this season.

Forwards Cox, Murray and Blackman are Reading’s main threats up front, and Reading have failed to score just twice in their last twelve away matches in the Championship.

Given Sheffield Wednesday’s recent slump in form on home turf though, I’d rather side with both teams hitting the back of the net in this one as The Owls will be keen to turn around their home form while Reading possess the personnel to score at least one goal. This could end up perhaps a 1-1 draw.
