Charbel to strike without Altior in Arkle

Cheltenham Festival

Charbel, a 10/1 shot in Arkle Trophy 2017 betting at Bet365 looks good value to return something for punters in the race on March 14th. The Arkle, the race for first season chasers follows the exciting opening of the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and last year we saw total dominance issued by Douvan as he streaked away to an impressively easy and expected victory in the race. This season, it is Altior who is expected to follow in Douvan’s considerable footsteps and lay down an easy win in the Arkle.

But were are looking at Charbel who is the one horse in the field who is looking sharp enough to offer up some kind of challenge to Nicky Henderson’s Altior. Charbel landed a great win over Le Prezien (who is also up in the Arkle) in his first chase of the season and Top Notch was in that field as well, another of this year’s Arkle entrants. So that win at Uttoxeter for Charbel gave him a great start to the season and he looked strong among a field of highly rated rivals. Le Prezien and Top Notch may go on to bigger distances instead of the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival, but Charbel is staying put at the 2 miles and that makes him great value in the Arkle 2017 betting.

Kim Bailey’s youngster has faced up against race favourite Altior this season when they were paired in the Grade 1 Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at Sandown in early December. Charbel stuck in there to finish six lengths back of the winner, but that was a run which made him some great each way value for Arkle 2017 betting. Charbel isn’t up to the quality of Altior clearly and for being a progressive two-miler there is quality in him at this distance and if he can bring his A-Game to the Arkle on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival 2017 then he is more than capable of a top three finish.

An Altior – Charbel forecast isn’t a bad option in this one but if you can browse around at snap up odds on the Without Altior market for the Arkle 2017 betting, then that is going to offer huge value. Bet365 are offering 5/2 on Charbel without Altior and that’s much better value of course then you are going to find on just running with the favourite in this one. Charbel was out at 16/1 earlier in the ante post and that would have been the time to consider an easy way on him. Other bookmakers who are offering the Without Altior in the Arkle betting this year include SkyBet and Paddy Power. That’s a decent way to go because no-one looks capable of beating Altior at Prestbury Park.

Altior is immense, as he showed in his win over favorite Min in the Supreme Novices Hurdle last year at Cheltenham. He has stayed on the novice chasing track instead of jumping to the Champion Hudle and there’s no-one in the Arkle field that gets close to his quality and you can see that in the market odds. Altior remains unbeaten as he goes back to Cheltenham and can deal with the pressures well enough. Altior is fantastic chaser, fluent and quick and with such easy wins this season in the Grade 1 Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at Sandown and at the Grade 2 Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase at Kempton at the back of December, that proved to be the tip of the iceberg in his preps.

Nicky Henderson then threw him into the mix against Fox Norton and Dodging Bullets at The Game Spirit Chase at Newbury and Altior smashed the quality rivals by 13 lengths in the race and he just gets better and better each time that he steps out in action. The road ahead for him looks paved with gold and he should dominate as a banker in this one. But look for that value in Charbel to make an understated impact in the race.
