Aston Villa commenced their new Premier League season off with a very welcome three points on the south coast last weekend when they beat newcomers Bournemouth 1-0 to get Tim Sherwood’s boys off to a winning start.

Tim Sherwood arrived in the nick of time towards the end of Villa’s campaign last season when he replaced the hapless Paul Lambert who just couldn’t take a trick. Sherwood rescued the club from almost certain relegation and this was nothing short of what he deserved after the disgusting way former club Tottenham had treated him.

However, a new season brings new pressures and challenges as star striker Christian Benteke has since left for Liverpool and Fabian Delph has moved to Manchester City where he’s expected to be picking out the splinters from his backside week-on-week as one of the perennial substitutes.

Manchester United meanwhile also secured all the points on the opening day of the season last week when they saw off Tottenham 1-0 at Old Trafford in an entirely unconvincing win on home turf.

Manchester United laboured for long periods of the match and they only scored through the mistake of Tottenham defender Kyle Walker who put through his own net to give United the lead. But credit to United, once they’re ahead they always seem to be able to hold onto a lead which again could be a factor here this evening.

Manager Louis van Gaal is expected to line up with a 4-2-3-1 formation again with new signing Memphis Depay playing just behind striker Rooney, but I daresay they’ll press further forward than their hosts tonight with the attacking flair in personnel they possess.

In short, United have the greater depth in squad to force the issue here and so I’ll back Manchester United to take the points here in what could be a 2-1 win for the visitors.
