Monday night rounds off this weekend’s Premier League action and perhaps arguably saves the best for last as an east midlands derby between strugglers, Leicester City and Nottingham Forest at the King Power Stadium takes on even greater meaning as both clubs find themselves sitting in the relegation zone and both respective managers are dangerously close to being shown the door as fortunes have failed both sides so far this season.

Leicester City Preview – Can Foxes open their account?

Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, is perhaps in the ‘last chance saloon’ ahead of Monday night’s local derby against Nottingham Forest as his Foxes side find themselves sitting rock bottom of the Premier League table with just a single point to their name, which was thanks to an opening day 2-2 draw at home with Brentford.

However, that opening point was far from being a platform from which The Foxes could build their new campaign upon as the hosts have experienced an alarming slump in form and results, as Leicester have suffered six defeats on the trot, losing to Arsenal, Southampton, Chelsea, Manchester United, Brighton and Tottenham respectively.

As bad as that seems though, it should be noted that four of these six losses were incurred away from home while results on home soil at the King Power Stadium have actually not been that bad considering the current situation; The Foxes have lost just three out of their last 12 matches in their own backyard.

Leicester City have also picked up five wins during this period as well, and they also possess greater experience in the English top flight level which they will be hoping to rely upon on Monday night against their east midlands rivals, Nottingham Forest.

This is absolutely a ‘must win’ game for Leicester City and beleaguered manager, Brendan Rodgers, and this upcoming visit from an equally under fire Nottingham Forest outfit represents Leicester’s best chance yet to not only pick up all three points but grab a vital lifeline in their bid to stay in touch with the clubs above them.

Rodgers will be without defenders, Ryan Bertrand and Ricardo Pereira due to injuries but otherwise has a fully fit squad to choose from.

Nottingham Forest Preview – Can Tricky Trees produce rare magic?

Having lost just one of their opening three games upon their return to the big time and the Premier League, Nottingham Forest will have been encouraged by picking up four points out of the opening possible nine on offer, thanks to a 1-0 home win against West Ham, which was then followed by a 1-1 draw away from home at Everton.

However, Steve Cooper’s side have suffered a similar fate to that of their Monday night’s hosts, Leicester City, as the Tricky Trees have lost each of their subsequent four top flight games on the trot which culminated in defeats to Tottenham, Manchester City, Bournemouth and Fulham respectively, the latter two losses being particularly disappointing.

Forest have also conceded a total of 17 goals across their seven league games to date this term and it’s been their fragile defensive unit which is causing manager, Steve Cooper, sleepless nights as the visitors possess the third worst defensive record in the Premier League, and they could face another tough test at the King Power Stadium on Monday night as well.

Early results away from home also underline Nottingham Forest’s lack of defensive steel as the visitors have conceded a total of nine goals overall on the road and to make matters worse, the Tricky Trees have also managed to score just the single goal in their three outings on their travels so far this season.

Cooper will be without two defenders in the shape of Moussa Niakhate and Omar Richards and this may not bode well as Forest look to keep things tight against their east midlands rivals.
