The Premier League action returns this weekend after the international break and Sunday afternoon brings us this upcoming clash between Leeds United and Aston Villa at Elland Road with both teams looking to lift themselves up into the top half of the Premier League table with Leeds United sitting in 11th place and Aston Villa in 15th spot, so both teams will be desperate to resume their campaigns with all three points in this encounter.

Leeds United Preview – Can Leeds bounce back at Elland Road?

A heavy 5-2 defeat away from home in the nation’s capital saw Leeds United head into the international break on the back of a heavy loss which also extended the Yorkshire club’s winless run in the Premier League to three games, but nevertheless, Leeds still occupy a promising 11th place in the top flight table after a reasonable start to this new season.

Recent defeats to Brighton and Brentford, along with a draw against Everton means that Leeds have managed to pick up just a solitary point out of the possible last nine points on offer, but it should be noted that both of these recent losses were incurred away from home, while results on home soil at Elland Road have been fairly solid.

The Whites are unbeaten in their last four games at home which include victories over Wolves and Chelsea along with picking up points in draws with Brighton and Everton but Leeds will no doubt be keen to avenge last season’s defeat at home to Villa whom they lost 3-0 to back in March of last season, this time around.

Indeed, Villa are unbeaten in each of the last four meetings against Leeds United, so Sunday’s hosts will be keen to set the record straight in this encounter, and they’ll view this upcoming fixture as one that can potentially hand them a valuable three points towards their quest for a top half place.

Leeds manager, Jesse Marsch, is sidelined with a touchline ban but at least he can call upon defender Rasmus Kristensen and Junior Firpo, but Stuart Dallas remains a long-term absentee and is joined in the treatment room by Adam Forshaw and Archie Gray with a sprained ankle and a fractured toe respectively.

Aston Villa Preview – Can Villains win back to back upon return?

By contrast, Aston Villa headed into the recent international break on the back of a welcome and much needed 1-0 home win against Southampton which not only handed manager Steven Gerrard and his side a welcome three points but that result also ended a previously worrying four-match winless run in the Premier League.

Villa now occupy 15th place in the English top flight table and hold a three point cushion over the relegation zone but the west midlands club know only too well how quickly fortunes can change and they’ll be looking to extend their recent dominance over Leeds United again on Sunday afternoon.

However, recent defeats to Crystal Palace, West Ham and Arsenal have still been a concern for Villa fans as their side possess a fairly brittle and vulnerable side to themselves so far this season which was also evident on the opening day of this new season when they suffered a somewhat surprising 2-0 defeat away from home at Bournemouth.

The bigger picture also shows that Aston Villa have managed to register just two wins out of their last 11 games overall in the domestic top flight, both of which were captured on home soil at Villa Park with rare wins against Everton and the aforementioned Southampton, while also struggling for wins on the road as well.

With just one win from their last eight outings on the road, Villa look to have their work cut out here this Sunday.
