Chelsea wrapped up the Premier League title on Friday night when they grabbed all three points in a 1-0 win at West Brom, and they’ll return triumphant to Stamford Bridge on Monday night when they play Watford in their penultimate home match of the season.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has managed in his first ever English top flight season what Jose Mourinho couldn’t do in his second spell at Chelsea, and that was to win the league title, and his side will go in search of a fifth consecutive win this evening, following wins over Southampton, Everton, Middlesbrough and West Brom.
The Blues have won 13 of their last 14 home matches amidst an impressive overall home record of 15-0-2 46/13 and they’ve deservedly won the title this season, although they were pushed all the way by Tottenham.
Visitors Watford have had a strange season which ultimately has ended up with The Hornets retaining their Premier league status, but manager Walter Mazzarri will be alarmed at how drastically their form has dipped in the home straight of this campaign.
Watford head into this match on the back of five defeats from their last six overall following losses to Tottenham, Hull City, Liverpool, Leicester City and Everton and they sit just above the bottom three although they do hold an unassailable six point cushion over recently relegated Hull.
The Hornets have also lost their last six away matches on the trot which incidentally have all been to nil as they seem to now be just seeing out the remainder of the season with a poor away record which stands at 3-3-12 12/35.
Watford have failed to score in 11 of their 18 away matches to date, and this is expected to give Chelsea a healthy headstart this evening.
