Cruzeiro scored an important point away at Sport Recife in last weekend’s 0-0 stalemate away from home, and they will be looking to build upon that result this afternoon when they play host to Palmeiras who currently sit in sixth spot.
There’s been a few mixed results for Cruzeiro in recent weeks as they’ve suffered defeats to Fluminense and Sao Paulo, although both of these losses were on the road while they’ve drawn at home with Avai and beaten Goias in addition to last week’s draw at Sport Recife.
Cruzeiro’s overall home record stands at 3-2-2 6/4 and whilst this record doesn’t appear to set the world on fire, it’s worth remembering that they’ve won three of their last five on home soil with wins over Flamengo, Atletico PR and Goias.
Visitors Palmeiras suffered a set-back in their hopes of a Copa Libertadores qualifying spot last weekend when they were handed a 1-0 defeat at home to Atletico PR which put an end to their promising seven-match unbeaten run.
Palmeiras had previously strung together six wins from these last seven matches overall, with four of the six victories being achieved on home turf. Away wins at Ponte Preta and Vasco da Gama were almost expected, while their overall away record stands at 3-2-2 11/6.
However, last weekend’s home defeat could still be in the back of their minds going into today’s encounter, and it won’t be plain sailing for the visitors by any means.
All up, I reckon Cruzeiro can hold their own on home soil here and could even nick this perhaps 1-0 but I recommend using the round ball on the hosts.
