As part of a great weekend for the touring Northern Hemisphere nations last weekend, Wales collected a victory over South Africa.

That pulls them level with the Springboks in the three-match series. That was their first win on South African soil.

But will the tourists be able to withstand the pressure that the hosts will bring to the table as they return to full strength?

South Africa Preview – Boks back to full strength

In the opening Test of this series, South Africa battled to a 32-29 victory over Wales.

Then for the second match in the Series, the Boks made wholesale changes to their starting fifteen.

It was 14 changes to the starting line-up that South Africa made for the second test in Bloemfontein.

With the depth that they have in their squad, South Africa looked to be heading to a win.

South Africa were cruising after Handre Pollard had sent over four penalty kicks.

But a resilient Wales somehow found a way back from what looked like a hopeless situation.

South Africa are 1/7 odds-on favourites in rugby betting for Saturday* (odds recorded 04:49 GMT on July 14th, 2022 at Bet365)

They were heavily criticised by some for making so many changes.

But South Africa are clearly trying to have a good look at their options as they build toward their World Cup title defence.

Our betting prediction:
SA 6-10 winning margin
9/2

This series is the first rugby that South Africa have played this year.

During last year’s autumn internationals they did claim victories at Wales and Scotland before narrowly falling short against England at Twickenham.

Before that, they had taken a victory over New Zealand at the end of the 2021 Rugby Championship.

The Springboks are the reigning World Champions and have supreme physicality.

They will be happy to grind things out up front, an area where Wales probably are not going to match them.

The South Africa -13.5 handicap is at 5/6 in rugby betting odds* (odds recorded 04:49 GMT on July 14th, 2022 at Bet365)

South Africa Starting XV

Damian Willemse; Cheslin Kolbe, Lukhanyo Am, Damian de Allende, Makazole Mapimpi; Handre Pollard, Jaden Hendrikse; Trevor Nyakane, Bongi Mbonambi, Frans Malherbe; Eben Etzebeth, Lood de Jager; Siya Kolisi (capt), Pieter-Steph du Toit, Jasper Wiese,
Replacements: Malcolm Marx, Steven Kitshoff, Vincent Koch, Franco Mostert, Kwagga Smith, Elrigh Louw, Faf de Klerk, Willie le Roux.

Wales Preview – Tough ask for Wales

In the second Test against a much-changed South Africa side, Wales looked second best.

They didn’t look to have a chance at 12-3 down.

Wales weren’t really making any impact as an attacking unit whatsoever.

But they found a way with a late try by Josh Adams. That was Wales’ only real big attacking opportunity in the entire match.

That was the first win in South Africa for Wales in what was their 12th attempt.

In the match outright for rugby betting odds, Wales are 9/2 underdogs on Saturday* (odds recorded 04:49 GMT on July 14th, 2022 at Bet365).

This looks like a much tougher proposition for them with the big guns for the Springboks returning.

But interestingly Wales are now W3 L2 in their last five internationals against South Africa.

Wales are capable of battling and sticking in there, they showed that even in defeat in the first Test.

While they had so little momentum or cohesion in the Second Test, they found a way to win.

So we don’t think that for rugby tips we should be looking for a huge margin between the two teams.

The South Africa 6-10 winning margin at 9/2 could be on the radar* (odds recorded 04:49 GMT on July 14th, 2022 at Bet365).

Wales have been boosted by confirmed fitness for Dan Biggar and Dillon Lewis.

Wales starting XV

L Williams; Rees-Zammit, North, Tompkins, Adams; Biggar (capt), Hardy; G Thomas, Elias, D Lewis, Rowlands, Beard, Lydiate, Reffell, Faletau.
Replacements: Lake, W Jones, S Wainwright, Alun Wyn Jones, Navidi, T Williams, Anscombe, Watkin.

South Africa vs Wales Betting Advice

Wales have a well-settled team and are back to their starting fifteen from the first Test of this series.

That’s just one change from last week with Alex Cutherbet being replaced on the wing by Josh Adams.

That’s great continuity which should help the Welsh stay competitive.

We do think that they come up short, but a Wales +13 handicap at even money is fair* (odds recorded 04:49 GMT on July 14th, 2022 at Bet365).
