Hosts Figueirense have another chance of halting a miserable four-match run without a win this afternoon when they entertain Ponte Preta at their Estádio Orlando Scarpelli ground as they look to pull away from the bottom three in Serie A.
Figueirense have lost three of their last four matches with defeats to Joinville, Santos and Atletico Mineiro although two of these losses were dealt out on their travels while they did gain a point on home turf recently against Coritiba in a 0-0 draw.
Figueirense have lost just once at home all season so far which was the Joinville defeat, but generally they’ve been pretty steady as their overall home record suggests of 3-3-1 7/5 which includes wins over Cruzeiro, Palmeiras and Goias.
Visitors Ponte Preta head into this afternoon’s encounter on the back of a run of six matches without a league win and indeed they’ve managed just one Serie A win from their last ten matches overall which was a 2-1 home win over Atletico PR.
The visitors have been involved in a spate of draws if they haven’t lost and stalemates with Santos, Goias, Coritiba, Joinville and Internacional makes me hesitant to blow all my stake on the hosts as Ponte Preta have proved difficult to break down.
Their away record stands at 1-5-2 10/11 and is further evidence of their stubborn nature on their travels – so tread carefully!
That said, I do believe the balance hangs on the side of the hosts in this one and I’ll certainly back them with the reasonably priced round ball with a view to perhaps a 1-0 win for Figueirense.
