Flamengo registered a third Serie A win in four matches last weekend when they beat Goias 1-0 away from home which lifted them up into a mid-table position as their form seems to be picking up.
Back-to-back wins over Gremio and Goias will give them the necessary confidence for this home match against bottom half outfit Santos, and with the home advantage of the Maracana behind them, the hosts look well set for the points in this one.
Flamengo’s overall home record however appears to be nothing to shout about as it currently stands at a modest 2-1-4 7/12 but it should be noted that two of their recent three defeats on home soil were indicted up them by the top two clubs in Serie A – Atletico Mineiro and Corinthians.
Visitors Santos also tasted success last weekend with a 2-0 home win over fellow strugglers Joinville which complemented their previous home win over Figueirense. But again, these wins need to be taken into context as they were both registered on home soil and both against teams floundering in the bottom quarter of Serie A.
It’s Santos’ away form that concerns us for this next match-up and accordingly, you can see that they’ve lost their last four away matches on the trot with defeats at Internacional, Fluminense, Goias and Palmeiras and have still yet to win on the road.
Santos’ away record reads a disappointing 0-2-6 7/15 with goals coming at premium for the visitors having failed to score on three occasions whilst failing to keep a clean sheet to date.
This looks like it should be a fairly straightforward home win here for the hosts who could take this perhaps 2-1.
