Gefle suffered a second defeat on the trot before the Swedish break when they went down to a heavy 5-1 loss away at third placed Elfsborg, but they’ve had time to reflect and re-group since that loss ahead of tonight’s clash with Hammarby.
The other defeat was a 2-1 home defeat to fifth placed Malmo, but Gefle have a chance to get back to winning ways at their Gavlevallen ground tonight where they’ve lost just once so far this season amidst an overall record of 3-2-1 8/3.
Gefle’s solid home record has been the main reason for their current mid-table position and they’ve posted wins over the likes of Kalmar, GIF Sundsvall and Hacken along with draws against Halmstad and most notably, IFK Gothenburg. The most likely potential anytime goalscorer for the hosts look to be striker Oremo (7 goals) and midfielder Bertilsson (4 goals).
Visitors Hammarby also lost their last match in the Swedish Allsvenskan prior to the break with a 1-0 home loss to IFK Gothenburg which extended their run without a win to eight league matches.
During this miserable eight-game sequence, Hammarby have lost five and drawn three as they find themselves in 11th place in the Swedish top flight and four points adrift of today’s hosts Gefle. In addition, all three of Hammarby’s wins in the Allsvenskan have come at their Tele2 Arena where they’ve won three, drawn one and lost two.
Away from home, their results have been even worse as they’re still yet to record a win on their travels amongst an overall record of 0-3-4 6/12 along with failing to keep a clean sheet in all seven of their away matches to date.
Hammarby have also now gone 13 away matches without a win at this level, a record which extends into their last appearance in the Allsvenskan which was back in 2009.
The hosts Gefle therefore appear to be the best placed to take all three points in tonight’s encounter but I advise keeping the draw on your side in this one as a stalemate can’t be completely ruled out. Gefle might edge this perhaps 1-0.
