Following back-to-back defeats away from home at Cruzeiro and Internacional respectively, Goias will be hoping for better luck this time around when they entertain Flamengo in a bottom half clash in the Brazilian Serie A.
Despite the recent defeats though, Goias will go into today’s clash in a reasonable frame of mind having earned point against Corinthians in a 0-0 stalemate and registering a win over Santos in a 4-1 thrashing of the strugglers.
Goias’ overall home record stands at 2-2-2 8/5 which is not exactly setting the world alight, but they’ll be encouraged by their recent results on home turf.
Visitors Flamengo have recorded up and down results of late having suffered defeats to Figueirense and Corinthians (both at home) while they’re recently registered away wins at Joinville and Internacional.
Flamengo’s overall away record stands at 3-0-4 6/7 and despite back-to-back away wins, they’re not to be trusted on the road as they’ve displayed a fair amount of inconsistency on their travels so far this season.
Goias will be in a better frame of mind given their recent home performances, and so I’ll back them to at least avoid defeat here this afternoon in what is an important match for both teams. Take the quarter ball that’s offered on the hosts for a bit of extra insurance, but they might get up perhaps 1-0.
