Manchester City celebrated their progression into the last 16 of the Champions League in style on Tuesday night when they turned over German outfit Borussia Moenchengladbach 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium as the blue half of Manchester finished above Italian giants Juventus in Group D.
It’s back to domestic business though this afternoon for Pellegrini’s boys as they look to bounce back from their unexpected 2-0 defeat away at Stoke City last Saturday which has resulted in The Citizens dropping down to third spot in the Premier League.
Manchester City have returned mixed results in recent weeks in the English top flight as they’ve been soundly beaten 4-1 by Liverpool in their own backyard along with wins over Norwich City and Southampton, while their home form still remains pretty well intact with a record of 6-0-2 23/10.
Visitors Swansea City can only dream of rubbing shoulders with the likes of Juventus et al as they parted company with their longest-serving employee and manager Garry Monk recently after a string of poor results.
But once again we have to question the loyalty shown to players and managers alike when they’ve served a club through tick and thin as Monk had stayed with the club from when they were in League Two (facing almost extinction) and played for The Swans in every division including the top flight.
Anyway, the loss of former striker Wilfried Bony was probably the catalyst for Swansea’s steady decline and now with Monk gone at the helm, Swansea face a very tough season from here on in as they try to stave off the almost inevitable of dropping down to the Championship.
Quite simply, Manchester City should have way too much firepower for a team that are rocking on its heels, so I’ll back the hosts to be leading at half-time and go on to win the match.
