Next up is an an all-Eastern Conference clash between New York Red Bulls and New England Revolution at the Red Bull Arena with the hosts looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 2-1 defeat away at Columbus Crew.
New York had previously registered back-to-back wins over Real Salt Lake and their city rivals New York City, and with a reasonable home record that lokos like 4-2-2 10/7, they’ll be hopeful of picking up all three points tonight in order to cement their current play-off position.
The Red Bulls had earlier suffered back-to-back defeats on home turf to Philadelphia Union and Vancouver Whitecaps, but they bounced back well in their last home game at the Red Bull Arena with a 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake.
Visitors New England Revolution currently occupy a reasonable fourth place in the Eastern Conference thanks largely to a pretty solid home record where they’ve lost just once all season so far.
However, their away form has prevented them from making in-roads into the top two positions of the Conference with a disappointing overall record of 2-1-7 10/21 and they head into tonight’s encounter on the back of four straight MLS defeats.
Losses to DC United, Columbus Crew, Vancouver Whitecaps and FC Dallas have really halted their earlier momentum, and they face a tricky test at New York tonight particularly when you consider they’ve lost their last five away matches on the trot!
I have to side with the hosts New York Red Bulls in this one as I’m confident they can put together back-to-back home wins to keep their push for the play-offs on track. Could be a 2-1 win for the hosts.
