Estonian outfit Nomme Kalju earned a valuable draw in their first leg second round Europa League qualifying tie away at Maccabi Haifa last week and they will be looking to make home advantage count in Thursday night’s return leg.
The venue is Hiiu staadion in Tallinn and the home side have shown some good form in recent matches as they’ve suffered just one defeat in their last six matches overall which was a 2-1 first leg loss away to Lithuanian sode Trakai.
However, Nomme Kalju came storming back in the second leg at home to register a convincing 4-1 win on the night, and a 5-3 aggregate win to earn their place in this qualifying second round. In the Europa League though, the wins have been sporadic as they’ve gained just three victories from their last ten matches overall at this level.
Visitors Maccabi Haifa missed out on the chance to take a lead into this second leg in Estonia as they were held 1-1 by tonight’s opponents Nomme Kalju and they will need to improve this evening if they’re to progress into the third qualifying round.
But just two defeats from their last 13 matches played overall gives them a great chance of staying in this tie and perhaps sneaking their way past Nomme Kalju particularly given their potent attacking personnel up front such as the likes of Atar (10 goals) and Piet (9 goals) who are expected to cause the Nomme Kalju defence plenty of headaches this evening.
This will be a tough match, but I’m expecting Maccabi Haifa to eventually get over the line here.
