Monaco Preview – Can Monaco continue winning run?

Monaco will head into this upcoming Matchday 3 clash in the Europa League on the back of some impressive victories in recent weeks as the French hosts have won five out of their last six matches overall in all competitions, picking up a 1-0 win on the road at Red Star Belgrade on Matchday 1 of the group stages in the Europa League, along with collecting four wins in the domestic top flight as well.

Although they were handed a defeat last time out on Matchday 2 of the Europa League when they lost 1-0 at home to Ferencvaros, wins against Nice, Lyon, Reims and Nantes should give Monaco a timely boost ahead of this upcoming fixture against Trabzonspor, while the bigger picture shows the hosts have suffered just four defeats out of their last 31 games on home soil at their Stade Louis II.

Monaco now have another opportunity to set the record straight on home soil on Thursday night and having lost just two out of their last 10 matches overall in this competition, the hosts will be confident that they can get something out of this clash, a run that includes four wins as well.

Results at home in this competition have also been fairly strong for Monaco too as the hosts have lost just twice in their previous 12 ties whilst collecting six wins in the process over the years including notable wins against Sturm Graz and Real Sociedad, so confidence is expected to be high amongst the Monaco camp for this encounter.

Monaco are set to be without the services of defender Ruben Aguilar (foot injury) along with forward Willem Geubbels who is also sidelined with an injury, but otherwise, Monaco manager, Phillippe Clement has a full squad to choose from.

Trabzonspor Preview – Can Trabzonspor win four on the trot?

Trabzonspor were dealt 3-2 loss away from home at Hungarian side, Ferencvaros, on Matchday 1 of this season’s Europa League but the Turkish visitors managed to bounce back with a welcome three points by way of a 2-1 home win over Red Star Belgrade and they’ll be looking for more of the same when they visit the principality of Monaco on Thursday night.

Trabzonspor have also posted back to back wins in the Turkish top flight since that Matchday 2 win over Red Star as the visitors have collected domestic victories against Gaziantep and Kayserispor, so they too will be in a confident frame of mind going into this Matchday 3 clash at the Stade Louis II.

However, the bigger picture shows Trabzonspor have managed to win just four of their last 10 matches overall in all competitions while on the Europa League front, the Turkish visitors have tended to struggle in recent times to cope with the step up in quality in this competition as they have won just one of their last nine ties overall which came in the form of that 2-1 home win over Red Star Belgrade but they have also suffered a number of defeats as well.

Indeed, Trabzonspor have lost seven out of these last nine Europa League ties which includes defeats on the road at Getafe, Krasnodar, Basel and this season’s loss at Ferencvaros as well, so the prospects of an away win for the Turkish outfit do not seem to be particularly promising here.

Trabzonspor are expected to be missing defender Serkan Asan along with midfield duo Dorukhan Tokoz and Edin Visca due to injuries, while Bruno Peres is a major doubt with an achilles tendon and is likely to miss the trip to Monaco on Thursday night.

  • Monaco have lost just 2 of their previous 12 home ties in EL
  • Monaco have won 6 of these last 12 home ties in EL
  • Trabzonspor have lost their last 4 away ties in EL

With home advantage behind them and recent winning momentum under their belts, Thursday evening’s hosts, Monaco, look to hold the edge over Trabzonspor ahead of this Matchday 3 clash, especially as Trabzonspor’s results away from home in this competition have been poor of late.
