An intriguing contest between the joint leaders of Group E backons next on Matchday 3 of the Europa League as hosts Roma take on Austria Vienna at the Stadio Olimpico with both teams remaining unbeaten so far at this stage of the competition.
Roma thrashed Astra 4-0 at home in their previous game of this phase which followed an opening day 1-1 draw away at Viktoria Plzen, and overall Roma have been in good shape in recent weeks as they’ve registered four wins from their last five matches in all competitions with wins over Crotone, Astra, Inter Milan and Napoli.
The latter result was achieved away from home and was arguably their most impressive in recent times, and this will give them a great confidence boost ahead of this important Europa League fixture tonight.
Visitors Austria Vienna travel to Italy having secured back-to-back wins in the Austrian Bundesliga recently with wins registered against St Polten and Mattersburg and they too will be heading into this important Group E fixture with a fair amount of confidence as they also remain unbeaten in this phase of the tournament to date.
The Austrians came out on top away at Astra winning 3-2 on Matchday 1 which they followed up with a slightly disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Viktoria Plzen, and if they can come away with a point at Roma this evening, it will be considered a great result.
Austria Vienna have won their last four matches in the Europa League but this will be their toughest test yet and I fancy the home side to win this important group match ere this evening.
