Roma suffered a 2-1 reverse in their midweek trip away at fifth placed Sampdoria but they have a great chance to redeem themselves back at their Stadio Olimpico tonight when they take on Serie A strugglers Carpi who are still looking for their first win of the new season.
Roma have dropped down to 9th spot as a result of the midweek loss, but all three points tonight could see them jump up as high as third spot depending on other results – and Roma have started in solid fashion on home turf as they’ve secured the points over Juventus and gained a point against Sassuolo.
Roma have lost just once at home in their last seven matches and if you’re looking for an anytime goalscorer then former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko and ex-Arsenal forward Gervinho are worth a look at.
Visitors Carpi have had to endure a tough baptism of fire in the new Serie A season as they’re still yet to record a win in the Italian top flight and they currently occupy second from bottom spot just one point ahead bottom placed club Frosinone.
Carpi face a mountain to climb in Rome tonight despite the hosts’ indifferent start to the season, and looking at Carpi’s away form so far, they’ve suffered a heavy 5-2 loss at Sampdoria but they held Palermo to a 2-2 draw last time out on their travels.
Away form will be crucial to Carpi’s survival in the Serie A and it’ll be interesting to see how they fare at Roma tonight, but I daresay the cards could be stacked against them in this one.
In summary, Roma should be able to dust themselves off and turn their attentions to three points tonight. I’m confident they can take and hold a lead over Carpi, hence my pick. Roma could win this perhaps 2-0.
