Rosenborg currently command a five-point lead at the top of the Norwegian Tippeligaen going into this evening’s clash with Molde at their Lerkendal Stadion, and they’ll no doubt be looking to record a third successive win here.
Two consecutive away wins at third placed Valerenga and Sarpsborg 2-1 and 2-0 respectively have pushed Rosenborg into the box-seat already in the Norwegian top flight race for the league title, and with an imposing home record of 4-2-0 18/5 under their belts, the hosts look a good bet to take the points in this one.
Draws with Stromsgodset and Tromso have book-ended a run of three straight wins over Start, Lillestrom and Sandefjord and with an attacking trio comprising of Soderlund (12 goals), Helland (9 goals) and Mikkelsen (6 goals) up front, the goals have well and truly flowed for the hosts.
Visitors Molde have enjoyed a reasonable campaign so far in the Tippeligaen as they currently occupy fifth place, but already find themselves 11 points behind the league leaders Rosenborg. However, Molde’s successes have been on the most part due to their home form where they’ve lost just once in their seven home matches to date.
Molde have lost just once in their last five with wins over Mjondalen and Sandefjord, along with draws against Stabaek and Valerenga although they did lose to Tromso 2-0 away recently. But on their travels, just one win from their last five indicates a weakness away from home, while their overall away record stands at 2-1-3 8/7.
Dig a bit deeper, and you’ll find that Molde have also lost their two away matches against top half opposition so far with defeats at Viking and Lillestrom, so a trip to Rosenborg is probably not at the top of their wish-list.
Rosenborg have been in good form again this season, and they should have too much firepower for Molde here tonight – could be a 2-0 win for the hosts.
