Sparta Prague have almost mirrored Dutch side Ajax in their early exchanges of the season in their respective domestic competition along with being bundled out of the Champions League after seemingly being in a strong position.
Sparta Prague appeared to have the upper hand when they earned a very solid 2-2 draw away at Russian outfit CSKA Moscow in the first leg of their recent Champions League qualifier. However, the second leg was not as straight forward as the hosts might have hoped as they lost 3-2 at home to CSKA which sent them crashing out of the elite european competition.
That said, Sparta Prague have won their first two matches in the domestic Czech Liga beating Zlin 3-0 at home and winning 4-2 away at Mlada Boleslav last weekend to set them up nicely for their first leg at home tonight against Swiss outfit FC Thun.
Onto visitors FC Thun then, and the Swiss side have progressed through to the play-off stages thanks to wins over Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva and Vaduz although the latter was courtesy of the away-goal rule with both legs ending in 0-0 and 2-2 stalemates respectively.
But on the domestic front, Thun currently sit bottom of the Swiss Super League having lost four of their first five matches and they’ve lost their last three on the trot with defeats to Lucerne, Young Boys and Basel – the latter two both being 3-1 losses away from home.
Another tough away match lies in store for Thun tonight as they look to contain the hosts Sparta Prague in Prague.
