Following back-to-back defeats away from home at Liverpool and Chelsea respectively, and where they were handed heavy defeats by conceding four goals in each match, Stoke will be relieved to be back at their Britannia Stadium for Tuesday night’s clash with lesser mortals, Watford.
Stoke have not travelled well so far this season in the Premier League, but it’s their home form which concerns us all for this match as they hold a home record of 3-3-3 11/13 which at first glance appears to be very inconsistent.
But a closer look will reveal that The Potters have actually lost just once in their last seven league matches on home turf (a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth), but they’ve also managed to pick up wins over Swansea City and Burnley in recent weeks along with gaining points off Southampton and Leicester City.
Nevertheless, manager Mark Hughes will be wanting his side to return to their customary mid-table position as soon as possible.
Visitors Watford are currently on a miserable run of form at the moment as The Hornets have lost three of their last four matches in the Premier League following losses to Manchester City, Sunderland and Tottenham and indeed have managed just one point from the last possible 12 on offer thanks to a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Vicarage Road.
They now face a tough trip to Staffordshire to face Stoke City at their noisy Britannia Stadium on the back of four straight defeats on their travels as they’ve suffered losses at Liverpool 6-1, West Brom 3-1, Manchester City 2-0 and Sunderland 1-0 – that’s 12 goals conceded and just 2 goals in reply for Watford in their last four away matches!
