Torino were handed their first defeat of the new Italian Serie A season on Wednesday night when they went down 1-0 away at Chievo Verona which resulted in Torino dropping down to sixth place in Serie A.
However, they have the opportunity to make amends very quickly this afternoon when they host mid-table Palermo at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino today with the hosts looking to maintain their 100% home record having registered back-to-back wins on home turf to start their season off in style.
Torino have beaten the likes of Fiorentina and Sampdoria already along with a 2-1 win at Frosinone and a point away at Hellas Verona in a 2-2 draw, while their early home record stands at 2-0-0 5/1 going into today’s encounter.
Visitors Palermo started their season off in style too having recorded back-to-back wins over Genoa and Udinese but have since fallen by the wayside as they’ve taken just one further point from a possible 9 on offer due to a 2-2 draw at home with struggling Carpi and then back-to-back defeats to AC Milan and Sassuolo.
Away from home, Palermo have won once and lost once while their early away record stands at 1-0-1 3/3 but they’ll take heart from the fact that they held today’s hosts Torino to a 2-2 draw last time they met in Torino back in December last year.
Traditionally though, Palermo haven’t been the best travellers in Serie A as they’ve managed just four wins in their last 16 away matches at this level.
I’ll therefore back the hosts Torino for the points in what could be a 2-1 win for the home side.
