Toronto FC bounced back with a fine 3-1 home win over Montreal Impact on Wednesday which followed a rather unexpected home defeat to New York City in the match prior.
However, the Canadians have now won four from their last five in the MLS Eastern Conference with wins over Portland Timbers, San Jose Earthquakes, DC United (away from home) and of course Montreal Impact. They now sit in fourth place and occupy one of the play-off positions thanks to this recent surge in form.
Toronto’s overall home record stands at 3-0-2 8/6 having won three of their last four on home turf and up front they have a pretty potent attack in the shape of leading goalscorer Giovinco (8 goals) and former Everton striker Jozy Altidore (6 goals) who may well figure in the anytime goalscorer stakes.
Visitors DC United currently sit top of the Eastern Conference thanks to recent back-to-back wins over New England Revolution and Wednesday’s 1-0 win away at Chicago Fire. A large part of their success so far though has been built around a strong home record where they’ve lost just once in their first 11 matches within a record of 7-3-1 18/10.
But away from home they’ve been less consistent with a record of 3-1-4 5/7 and Wednesday’s win at Chicago ended a run of four matches without a win on their travels having been beaten at Philadelphia Union, Portland Timbers and Orlando City (all by 1-0 margins).
In addition, DC United have a number of first team players rated as doubtful for this clash with the likes of Halsti, Johnson, Pontius, Farfan and Franklin all possible absentees for this trip.
Toronto have the winning feeling back after the Montreal victory and I’ll back them to take the points here again against a depleted DC United outfit. Could be a 2-1 win for the hosts.
