Tottenham earned a good point away at Everton in last week’s Premier League opener as the two teams were locked at 1-1 at full-time, and they now return to their familiar White Hart Lane ground which served them so well last season.
Tottenham lost just three league matches on home turf last campaign amidst an overall record of 10-6-3 35/15 which saw them finish in third spot ahead of both Manchester clubs (City and United respectively), although Spurs fans and players would have been disappointed not to have finished runners-up to Leicester City.
Spurs were rock-solid against teams situated in the bottom half of the Premier League last season as they finished with a record of 6-4-0 18/5 at home against such opposition, and we have to believe that Crystal Palace will once again fall into this category this term.
Onto Crystal Palace, and despite a good start to their campaign last season which saw The Eagles win three of their first four league matches, their season subsequently fell into sharp decline and they finished up in the bottom half of the division in 15th place and just five points ahead of relegated Newcastle United.
Palace manager Alan Pardew may be forgiven though for secretly celebrating the downfall of his former employers Newcastle United following an uneasy and strained tenure at St James’ Park, but he now needs to ensure the same fate doesn’t befall his team this season.
After losing 1-0 at home to West Brom in their first match of the new season last Saturday, the alarm bells may already be starting to ring at Selhurst Park, and if creative midfielders Cabaye and Townsend don’t start firing straight away, Palace could be on the end of a long, hard season.
