TOTTENHAM v HULL – Pick: 1 – 16 May 2015

Spurs to edge toothless Tigers at The Lane

Premier League Tips

Football – England – Premier League

Saturday 16th May 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

With just two matches of the Premier League season remaining, both Tottenham and Hull City go into this afternoon’s encounter needing all three points for differing reasons at their respective ends of the top flight.

Tottenham seem to be doing their level best to avoid playing european football next term as they’ve surrendered fifth spot to Liverpool who now hold a four-point cushion over the Londoners following back-to-back defeats for Spurs against Manchester City and Stoke City respectively.

Tottenham have also lost their last two on the trot at White Hart Lane with defeats to a resurgent Aston Villa (managed by former boss Tim Sherwood who would have absolutely relished that win over his old club, and justifiably so in my opinion), as well as the aforementioned Manchester City. However, this will be their last home match of the season and with it comes their ‘last chance saloon’ of attempting to overhaul Liverpool into fifth spot.

Tottenham’s overall home record stands at  9-3-6  29/24 but they’ve won two of their last three at home against bottom third teams in the EPL (2-1 wins over Burnley and Sunderland respectively).

Visitors Hull City have once again dropped into the relegation mire following back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and relegation rivals Burnley and they now find themselves two points adrift of crisis club Newcastle United who sit in the safety of 17th place.

Just two wins from their last ten have done Steve Bruce’s Tigers outfit no favours at all, while their form away from home has been sketchy to say the least all season with a return of 3-6-9  14/25. However, last time out they registered a much-needed win at Crystal Palace which halted a run of seven matches without a win on their travels, so they’ll be clinging to that fact for dear life!

A draw appears to be Hull’s most realistic return at White Hart Lane here despite Tottenham’s recent wobbles, but I’ll back the home side to get themselves together one last time on home turf to secure what could be a very pivotal three points. Could be a narrow 1-0 win for Spurs.
