Tottenham crashed out of the Europa League during the week as they could only muster a draw against Belgian outfit Gent in a 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane which was overshadowed by a reckless and atrocious tackle by Dele Alli.
However, Spurs manager Pochettino can call upon Alli once again on Sunday when Tottenham take on Stoke City in the Premier League as the three-match ban only applies to european games (which is crazy), but works in this afternoon’s hosts’ favour.
On the domestic front, Tottenham’s nine-game unbeaten run came to an end last time out when they went down 2-0 away at Liverpool, but they’ll be looking to maintain their record as the only team unbeaten at home so far in the Premier League with a record which stands at 10-2-0 26/5.
Visitors Stoke City occupy their usual mid-table position in the English top flight thanks to a reasonable home record at their Britannia Stadium and recent 1-0 home win over Crystal Palace. The Potters head into their clash with Tottenham having suffered just one defeat from their last six league matches overall, which was a 1-0 loss at West Brom.
However, with four defeats from their last five on their travels having suffered heavy losses at Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea along with the aforementioned defeat at West Brom, Stoke will struggle to keep pace with a Tottenham team that will be keen to make amends for their recent european exit.
Stoke’s away record of 3-3-6 14/21 reflects the troubles they’ve had on the road this season, and I can’t see this changing this afternoon I’m afraid.
