Betfair have joined the bookmaker exodus from Poland. New national gambling laws were announced to be coming into effect this week and that has prompted some major players to withdrawal ahead of the deadline.

Betfair are the latest to announce that they are leaving the Polish market, with William Hill and Bet365 already having stated that they will be out before the deadline. The new relations in Plan And will mean that operators who aren’t willing to apply for a new licence, which will now include a massive 12% tax on wagering turnover, will have to cease operations there by April 1st, 2017.

Operators have been unhappy with the new regulations, claiming that the high rate of tax makes the Polish market unprofitable. Totalizator Sportowy is to remain a monopoly in the country, with complete control over its online gaming market.
