Super League XXI – Rugby League Betting Odds & Predictions

Wolves to land Grand Final success this season?

Rugby Betting

The start of the new season of the Super League gets underway on Thursday night with the match up of St Helens v Leeds. 23 rounds of action will be coming your way, so plenty of rugby league betting opportunities to come and that is just leading up to the play offs, which in turn leads to the Grand Final itself. That will be held on October 8th at Old Trafford. So there is a long, long path to get there and it is the Wigan Warriors who are the reigning champions.

For the third year, there are twelve teams in the mix competing over the 23 rounds, which includes the Magic Weekend at St James Park, Newcastle which is the point where the top eight go on to compete for a place in the Super League Play Offs. The four bottom teams after the Magic Weekend go into a play off against the top four teams from the Championship (the second tier) to determine which of them will be playing in the Super League the following season.

So exciting stuff and coming up to join the fray from last season’s Championship are the Leigh Centurions at the expense of Hull KR. It is reigning champions Wigan who are joint 11/4 favourites at Betfred to be crowned champion again, joined at the head of the betting market by Warrington. Hull are coming in at 11/2 joint second-favorites alongside St Helens. Who will be crowned the champions after the long season ahead of thrills and spills?

Super League XXI Predictions

Hard to look past Wigan who are likely to challenge on all three fronts this season in the game. You have to look back at their success in the Super League last season and admire what they did, because it wasn’t an easy title at all for them. They had a massive amount of injury problems and still managed to battle their way to success in the Grand Final, despite only finishing second in the Super 8’s. It’s hard to imagine that they won’t be back up there challenging again.

But the Warrington Wolves, who finished top of the Super 8’s last season may be even stronger this time around. They have pulled in some high quality players and may have that extra strength in depth to go one step better and claim the win in the Grand Final. They should be there or thereabouts regardless when it comes to the playoffs. Throw Warrington and Wigan together and you are likely going to have be seeing a winner come from one of those two.

But it’s always worth looking a little beyond that. Hull topped the standings after the Magic Weekend last season and held down third spot in the Super 8’s. They were taken down in the play offs by Wigan ultimately, but it was a huge season of success for them nonetheless and the question about them is whether they can follow that up, or was that a one-off run at glory.

St Helens just lacked a little punch at the end of the day last season, losing out in the play offs to Warrington. You would image that they should be back challenging for a place in the play offs again this season. The arrival of new forwards and how they fit in could be the key for them. They are 2/5 to be back in the top four this season.

But Castleford perhaps offer the best dark horse value at Betfred in Super League XXI betting this season. There has been steady progress made by them under Daryl Powell and have plenty to prove at a higher level this term. Castleford at 11/2 to Reach Final looks a great punt ahead of the season and they are a quote of 7/4 to land a top four finish. So picking an outright Grand Final winner? It would have to be Warrington Wolves who look stronger than the rest of the pack.
