Competition Format

The eight teams taking part in the Autumn Nations Cup are split over two groups.

The winners of the two groups will then face off to see who finish top of the final standings.

That goes all the way down the group as well, with the second team from Group A playing the second team from Group B and so on.

That’s just to determine the final standings.

Autumn Nations Cup Rugby Betting Odds – Group A

England will be playing two of their three matches on home turf in the pool stage, which is naturally going to give them a little bit of an advantage.

Eddie Jones’s team are the 11/20 favourites to finish in the top spot in the Group for Autumn Nations Cup rugby betting* (betting odds taken from William hill at 4:57 GMT on Tuesday, 10th November 2020).

The one away game that they get is when they go to Wales in the final round to meet the Welsh at the Parc y Scarlet in Llanelli.

The big home game that England gets is against Ireland. During the 2020 Six nations, England took a 24-12 win over the Irish at Twickenham.

In that same campaign, they only managed to edge their way past Wales on home turf by a three-point margin.

While Ireland were there right at the end of the Six Nations campaign challenging for the title, Wales finished their campaign with only one win and a four-match losing streak.

Ireland are 2/1 to win Group A in Autumn Nations Cup rugby betting, with Wales out at 6/1 and Goerige the obvious long-shot underdogs* (betting odds taken from William hill at 4:57 GMT on Tuesday, 10th November 2020).

Autumn Nations Cup Rugby Betting Odds – Group B

The favourite to win Group B in AUtumn Nations Cup rugby betting is France at a 4/6 odds-on quote* (betting odds taken from William hill at 4:57 GMT on Tuesday, 10th November 2020).

That’s totally understandable as they were really a renewed and refreshed unit during this season’s Six Nations.

Les Bleus were right there on the final day of action alongside Ireland and England playing for the title.

The French showed great character to win their final game, which was on home turf, against fellow contenders Ireland.

That wasn’t the first example of a bit of new french grit either, as they had spectacularly opened their campaign by beating England in Paris.

Group B overall is seen as being a fair bit weaker than Group A, so it’s hard to deny that the French are the favourites.

Scotland had some bright moments in the Six Nations campaign and rounded off with a rare win in Wales as well to finish third in the Six Nations.

So it is their match against France which is probably going to be the group decider in the contest.

Very interestingly, when the two met at Murrayfield in the Six Nations, the Scots pulled off an underdog success to topple Les Blues.

It will be fascinating to see a rematch of that play out in the Autumn Nations Cup and Scotland are 6/4 to finish top of Group B* (betting odds taken from William hill at 4:57 GMT on Tuesday, 10th November 2020).

Autumn Nations Cup Rugby Betting Predictions

This is a good bit of late autumn international rugby to look at and there will likely be a few new faces around in squads.

England’s Eddie Jones has said that he isn’t making wholesale changes to his squad, but this is a good chance to look at some fresh faces.

Wales look in need of a bit of a shakeup. Things have not gone to plan under Wayne Pivac at all, especially in the defensive department.

The Welsh have been a shadow of themselves in that department this season. So that’s a big area that they need to work on.

A home defeat against Scotland in their last Six Nations fixture will have hurt them. They probably don’t have enough to be competitive in terms of winning outright.

Scotland are looking a confident bunch and have integrated Finn Russell back into the fold as well. The question is, can they get the better of France once again at Murrayfield? That is going to be one of the games of the competition.

France clearly offers a little more in attack and in their all-round game, and they will be looking for revenge. So we would swing towards France topping Group B.

England should get Group A with how the fixtures are lined up, with them facing Ireland at Twickenham. We see enough frailties in the defence of Wales to not stop England or Ireland.

So our prediction will be it all boiling down to an England v France showdown at Twickenham for the top spot in the standings.
