I now turn my attentions to the European section of the World Cup qualifiers and in particular, Group I, where there seems to be a couple of good opportunities to make a little money; first up is the match between hosts Turkey and visitors Finland as the home side look to keep in touch with the teams above them.
Turkey are in fourth place in a six-nation group which is headed by Croatia. The Turks are just three points adrift of second placed Ukraine though as they entertain Finland this evening, and a win tonight could see Turkey emerge as possible contenders for a play-off place, especially considering that Ukraine have to travel to Croatia this evening too.
Turkey are still unbeaten at home following a 2-2 draw with Ukraine and recording a 2-0 home win over bottom of the group Kosovo last time out, and they’ve lost just twice in their last nine World Cup qualifiers on home soil.
Visitors Finland sit one place below Turkey in Group I but are four points adrift as they share bottom position in the group with Kosovo as we approach the halfway stage of the World Cup qualification phase.
It’s been a very disappointing campaign for the Finns as they’ve registered just one point so far in this group stage which was thanks to a 1-1 draw with Kosovo in Helsinki, but three defeats from their last four matches have pretty much put paid to any ambitions they had of qualifying for Russia 2018.
Losses to Iceland, Croatia and Ukraine have de-railed their plans and they look to have their work cut out to get anything from Istanbul this evening.
