My next pick features the top two nations in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying group with second placed Uruguay taking on top nation Brazil as the hosts look to close the four-point gap that Brazil currently hold over them.
Uruguay lost ground on the group leaders Brazil following a heavy 3-1 defeat away at Chile last time out which ended Uruguay’s four-match unbeaten sequence in the qualifiers. Brazil sit top of the CONMEBOL qualifying group as their fortunes have changed dramatically (for the better), since the arrival of manager Tite who took over from former coach Dunga who was in his second stint at the helm.
Tite has transformed Brazil into the kind of form that we remember the Brazilians for, and while they’re still a way off from the legendary side of the 1970’s, the likes of striker Gabriel Jesus combining well with Neymar and Coutinho up front, and a midfield consisting of Paulinho, Fernandinho and Renato have worked wonders.
Brazil head into this encounter on the back of an impressive run of six wins on the trot which includes wins at Ecuador, Venezuela and Peru amidst an overall away record of 3-2-1 10/5.
I therefore feel the bookies have priced Brazil a little too generously here.
