The X Factor live shows will be back doing the circuit this weekend and therefore it’s worth a look at the betting for it. Louisa Johnson went into last season’s X Factor live shows as firm favourite to go on and scoop the title overall, and she delivered without wavering in the betting market. She clearly had the backing of the show and the judges from the off, so producers this season have dialled back any obvious support for a candidate that they want to push.
That still hasn’t stopped a lot of speculation flying around though and Simon Cowell’s student Matt Terry has been the one so far that has received the most sympathetic treatment throughout the competition so far. Mentor Cowell has put Terry in the same bracket as Olly Murs, a clear comparison to a previously strong finalist. That’s only going to do the power of good when it comes to support for Terry. But then Terry doesn’t have the most commercial appeal of the bunch.
Emily Middlemas looks a pretty solid punt at this stage of proceedings and it’s rare that you get a chance to throw support to a Scottish competitor. Just once in the last six years has there been a Scot in the finals of X Factor for example, but Middlemas has potential here as long as she goes for variety and doesn’t just stick to a girl with guitar routine. She will bank the Scottish vote pretty much and she arguably has the best vocals out of everyone left and her pleasant demeanour should all carry her deep into the tournament.
Simon Cowell looks to be in with a huge shot of being the winning manager with him coaching Gifty Louise and Samantha Lavery as well. Cowell’s got some great options running for him in this season’s competition and by covering him you are spreading the bet on all of them. One of the other big competitors which seem to have garnered more spotlight time than any other are 5 After Midnight, the three piece boy band. It’s all positive from them and they are getting the airtime to send them further. They are running as second favourites behind Matt Terry.
The girls category certainly looks a lot stronger overall than the boys do this season with main boy acts Brooks Way and Saara Aalto not being treated predominantly by the producers through the auditions. Remember that the show has its favourites, even if they are trying to cut back on making it so obvious who they are pushing. More airtime, like the relationship that Middlemas and boyfriend Ryan Lawrie (who the show squeezed back in after being rejected earlier) is TV gold that may see Middlemas follow in the footsteps of Louisa Johnson.
