Tom Hardy has been backed as heavy favourite now to be the next James Bond by bookmaker Paddy Power. The Batman star who has also been seen in other blockbusters like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant has fuelled rumours about being the next 007 after city interest in taking on the role.

The rumours have been rolling around for ages now in the race to follow on from Daniel Craig in the role. Hardy’s enthusiasm for the role though wasn’t outright because he had simply stated how cool it would be director Christopher Nolan (who is directing Hardy’s latest film Dunkirk) to take over the James Bond franchise.

Hardy actually refused to be drawn in on he being the one to take on the starring role. But that didn’t stop punters backing Hardy into 6/4 favourite to take on the role, with a stream of steady beating coming in on him. Hardy has leapt ahead of James Norton (9/4) and Aidan Turner (10/3) in the James Bond race, with Daniel Craig still not having signed a new deal.

Other names to have been mentioned, Idris Elba and Michael Fassbender have both ruled themselves out of the running.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “Despite usually playing roles that are maniacal or mumbling, Tom surely he won’t be able to say Dr No to this role.

“If the latest reports are right, Hardy could prove to be the Bane of my life – my only hope is that producers thing he’s a tad too Kray for Bond.”
