It was a case of deja-vu for Arsenal when they got hammered 5-1 away from home in last week’s Champions League first leg in Munich, and they now face a mountain to climb in tonight’s second leg, even though they possess home advantage at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal have now suffered back-to-back 5-1 defeats against their German opponents in the Champions League, and although these were both away from home, the prospect of crashing out of this elite european competition seems an almost certainty here this evening.
The Gunners have no choice but to come out firing on all cylinders here tonight, and this could well leave them extremely vulnerable on the break, something that the Germans are very adept at exploiting.
Bayern Munich are looking ominous as they make their way to England’s capital as they’ve been simply irresistible following on from their 5-1 mauling of Arsenal in the first leg of this Champions League round of last 16.
Since that impressive victory over The Gunners, Bayern Munich have inflicted further heavy defeats in their domestic Bundesliga with heavy wins recorded over Hamburg 8-0, Schalke 3-0 and the weekend 3-0 win away at Cologne.
This makes it 14 goals from their last three matches, while it looks highly likely that they’ll be progressing into the last eight of the Champions League. But take a look at Bayern’s away results in this competition and there’s plenty to suggest that there’s no guarantees of a win here this evening.
Bayern have captured just three away wins from their last 13 trips in the Champions League, so I’ll back both teams to score here as perhaps the safest outcome.
