Amanda Nunes v Ronda Rousey UFC Predictions and Odds – 31st December 2017

Rousey's place in division in serious jeopardy

It has taken around a year, but Ronda Rousey is back on the UFC card. Since losing her crown to Holly Holm in November 2015, the fighting star has taken something of a low profile approach to her life. She is still a massive draw though of course and now she steps back into the octagon for the first time since that loss and it remains to be seen whether or not she will be the same fighter when she gets back.

Rousey will challenge Amanda Nunes on Saturday and while Rousey is an odds-on price of 5/8 at Coral to go and take the win, punters are seeing the value in Nunes at 13/10.

There’s no doubt that she is going to be on a mission to try and win her belt back, but it seems like it is a bit of a curse to be holding it because it keeps changing hands. Holm lost the title in her first defence against Miesha Tate, the Tate saw it go through her fingers to end up in the hands of Nunes. Nunes is running on a four-fight winning streak after brutally stopping Miesha Tate to win the belt during that sequence.

The loss against Holm was the first of Rousey’s career and it was devastating because it broke down the walls of invincibility that surrounded her. The “Lioness” Nunes will probably not be fearing Rousey as much as she would have done before that defeat which makes Saturday’s bout even more interesting.

This is a cracking division in the UFC and so once against the Women’s Bantamweight title is up for grabs. Nunes has never submitted in her pro-career and is fierce enough to take the initiative in this fight, particularly if Rousey is off-balance on her high-profile return to action. But then arguably Rousey is still the best woman fighter ever in the history of the UFC and only two of her 13 professional fights have gone past the first round.

Rousey really defined the Bantamweight division in the UFC but now her place in it is in serious jeopardy. Nunes is a beast and there is huge value in backing her to take the win in this one. If Rousey’s veneer has worn off since that harrowing defeat against Holm then she is going to be there for the taking. Rousey turned up at the weigh-in and then promptly disappeared immediately without a word. That’s not the pre-Holm Rousey.
