From December 14th through to the 18th at the Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai, the Badminton World Superseries Finals will be contested and there is British interest in this, albeit small interest. There will be five separate titles contested at the Badminton Dubai World Superseries Finals 2016, the Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and the Mixed Doubles. The eight players are separated out into two groups of four and the top two from each then go through to the semi finals where the tournament takes on a straight knockout format. The two groups are separated out by ranking with the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th ranked players competition in Group A with the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th ranked players scrapping it out in Group B in a straight round robin format. Mixed Doubles
Again, this is a straightforward format of two groups of four with the top two moving through. As they are seventh seeds, Chris and Gabrielle Adcock are in Group B which means that they do at least avoid top seeds for the tournament but there is no easy progress for them here. The English duo were one of the leading medal hopes at the 2016 Olympics but couldn’t get out of their group to make it to the quarter finals of the mixed doubles in Rio. They remain an outside shot to get back on top of the Super Series Final after their huge success last season when they took down this year’s top seeds Ko Sung-hyun / Kim Ha-na easily in the final.

Badminton Dubai World Superseries Finals 2016 Predictions
Despite the heavy presence of Asian-based players Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen has been on top of the world this season reaching the final of three World Superseries event. That send him into this one as the top seed and while he only converted one of those three finals appearances into a win, it suggests that he is going to get close and looks value to do so.
There is little doubt about the favourite going into the women’s singles. Chinese Taipei representative Tai Tzu Ying is the one to beat as she picked up two Premier titles across the course of the series and she has been in the winners circle at the Badminton Dubai World Superseries Finals when she won back in 2014. The clear leader in the pack but Sun Yu, going in as third seed is the one who can be pegged as the most likely to upset her and the Chinese player could be the one to swing with for value at Bet365.
Second seeds V Shem/Wee Kiong will be value in the Men’s Doubles after running to the silver medal at the Olympics this year. The pair also have a Premier win under their belt this season as well. Their main competition with be Kamura/Sonoda from Japan. The queens of the women’s doubles this year is Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi who won four World Series titles this term and the Olympic Gold to boot. Can’t knock that and Danish veterans Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl are value for a semi final berth at worst.
The Adcocks haven’t carried the form this season to suggest that they are going to pull off a repeat of last year’s big success. No-one really has been able to get close this year to last seasons Badminton Dubai World Superseries Finals runners up KO Sung Hyun/KIM Ha Na anyway during 2016. If they bring their a-game, no-one’s going to stop them.
