PSG v Barcelona Betting Preview – UEFA Champions League 14th February 7.45pm

These two have thrown up some interesting clashes recently in the UEFA Champions League and this will be the third meeting in the last five seasons of the competition that they have clashed in the knockout stage. Barcelona have progressed through from the other two meetings and they have never failed to score in a game against PSG before (9 games). The Catalans are going as favourites to take a win in the French capital again as they head there on Tuesday night. It should be another massively entertaining match up between the two of them.

PSG v Barcelona Betting Tips

These are no strangers to each other as they will be the third meeting in the last five seasons. Each of the last three times that they have met in Paris, the games have gone over 2.5 goals and you have a price of 4/6 at Bet365 on over 2.5 goals occurring in this match up as well. PSG managed to take a home win when they met in the group stage of the 2014/15 season. But then when the two of them met back up in the quarter finals Barcelona coasted their way to a 3-1 win in Paris after having fallen behind in the match. There is a quote of 4/6 running on both teams to score as well. PSG have lost the last two knockout stage meetings Barcelona, but won the first ever meeting in the 1994/95 quarter finals.

Of the nine games that the two of them have contested before, PSG have failed to land a clean sheet in any of the match ups. They are now going on a three match losing streak against Barcelona and during just that three game sequence they have scored just the two goals and have conceded a total of eight against the Spanish giants. Paris St Germain are in decent form at home in Europe at the moment as they have suffered just the one loss in their last 42 European home fixtures (W26 D15) and that one loss was against Barcelona. Edinson Cavani has six goals in six Champions League game this season and he is a price of 11/8 in the anytime goalscorer market. PSG’S home record against Spanish visitors reads W6 D5 L2; overall it is W10 D7 L9 and they have failed to win any of their last five home or away against a Spanish club.

Barcelona have made it to the quarter finals in each of their last nine campaigns in the Champions League and that is the longest current run in the competition. The Catalans have won nine of their last 11 knockout stage matches in the competitions (L2) and they have struck at least two goals in each of their last three matches at PSG now. You have a price of 5/1 at Bet365 on Barcelona to win by a 2 goal margin and there is a 3/1 punt on them taking a win by a one goal margin. The latter of the two options looks a decent wager. Barcelona’s record away to French sides is W4 D3 L3; overall it is W12 D5 L4 and they have posted a W2 D3  L1 record in their last six visits to France, so that is something that suggests that this is going to be fairly tight.

There is a price of 15/2 at Bet365 on a 2-1 correct score in favour of Barcelona. Lionel Messi scored 10 goals in the 2016/17 Champions League group stages, the second-most in the competition’s group phase after Cristiano Ronaldo’s 11 last season and he is a price of 11/10 in the anytime goalscorer market with Luis Suarez at 6/5. Neymar, who is a 2/1 shot, has scored five goals in four games against PSG. Barcelona have lost just one of their last 22 games in all competitions now and incidentally, Barcelona have never lost a game in which Luis Suarez has scored in either so if he manages to get on the scoresheet, then there is a pretty good omen.

PSG v Barcelona Predictions

PSG are in pretty good form at the moment but then again, the weight of opposition that they face isn’t terrific most of the time. There is a clear and definite step up in class of opposition in this one then and it is likely that Barcelona will come through with the victory on the board at the end of the day. Worth a flutter on both teams to score, but decent enough value on Barcelona in the match outright is there to take.
