Champions League FInal Tips – Who are the favourites?

Liverpool are the favourites at even money to win the match outright* (odds recorded at 00:21 GMT on May 27th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

Despite missing out on the Premier League title, they have already collected the EFL Cup and FA Cup on the domestic front.

The 2019 winners will be looking to settle a score against Real Madrid for that 2018 Final loss against them.

Jurgen Klopp has assembled such a powerful squad, and they have been unplayable at times this season.

Real Madrid have a special affinity with this competition and are searching for a remarkable 14th title in the European Cup/Champions League.

They have defied some odds this season to get back to the Final for the first time since that 2018 triumph.

Will they have something special up their sleeve once again?

Our betting prediction:
Mo Salah First Goalscorer
5/1

Liverpool’s Route to the Final

Looking at the knockout stage draws that Liverpool have had to reach the UEFA Champions League Final, it has been nowhere near as tough as Real Madrid’s path.

Despite conceding goals along the way in the knockout stage, at no point have Liverpool not really looked in control of things.

They are now going to have to find their top-level once again at the end of a long campaign as they go in search of their seventh European Cup/Champions League title.

  • Group Stage: Group B winners
  • Round of Sixteen: 2-1 agg vs Inter Milan
  • Quarter Finals: 6-4 agg vs Benfica
  • Semi Finals: 5-2 agg vs Villarreal

Real Madrid’s Route to the Final

Real Madrid’s campaign has been unbelievable at times, as it feels like they have done nothing but produce stunning fightbacks all the way.

Their results were produced against teams who started the campaign with realistic hopes of landing the Champions League title.

Real Madrid overturned a first-leg deficit against PSG and produced late goals to sink Chelsea in the quarter-finals.

Then came a blockbuster of a fightback in the semi finals.

Real Madrid produced a simply stunning, late 6-5 aggregate victory over Manchester City.

So already this season, they have proven that they can handle the best England has to offer.

They are 5/2 underdogs in Liverpool v Real Madrid Tips, but Carlo Ancelotti’s men can’t be written off* (odds recorded at 00:21 GMT on May 27th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

  • Group Stage: Group D Winners
  • Round of Sixteen: 3-2 agg vs PSG
  • Quarter-Finals: 5-4 agg vs Chelsea
  • Semi-Finals: 6-5 agg vs Man City

Key Facts – Europa League/Champions League Final

  • Carlo Ancelotti is a three-time Champions League winner (four appearances)
  • Jurgen Klopp will be in his fourth Champions League Final
  • Real Madrid have made more Champions League Final appearances than any other team (8)
  • Liverpool have won the Champions League twice, Real Madrid seven times
  • The Reds were involved in the highest scoring Champions League final to date, their 3-3 draw with AC Milan in 2005
  • Both teams have won one title via a penalty shoot out
  • Real Madrid have won both previous Finals when they have been taken to extra time

Liverpool’s current form

Liverpool have not lost a fixture in any competition since a Round of 16 second-leg loss against Inter in early March.

The Reds pushed and pushed Manchester City all the way in the Premier League but dramatically fell short on the final day.

They have won nine of their last eleven matches in all competitions (90 minutes) which includes their penalty shoot-out success in the FA Cup Final against Chelsea.

Surprisingly Liverpool did concede first in each of their final four league matches of the season.

Their 0-0 draw with Chelsea in the FA Cup has been Liverpool’s only clean sheet in their last six.

Real Madrid’s current form –

Real Madrid wrapped up the La Liga title early so have been on cruise control for a while, making their form a little hard to read.

They closed out the season with back to back draws against Cadiz and Real Betis.

Those were matches on other days, you would expect them to win.

But the Spaniards have had their eye on this game, perhaps being part of the reason why they have won only one of their last four matches.

But the attacking threat is there. They have scored at least three goals in six of their last nine fixtures.

Who are the key players in the Final?

For Real Madrid, the big players include Karim Benzema who has had a tremendous season in front of goal.

At times he has single-handedly carried the goal-scoring threat for Real Madrid, at least that’s how it has looked.

Benzema is a 5/1 First Goalscorer option in the UEFA Champions League Final betting* (odds recorded at 00:21 GMT on May 27th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

Another of their dangermen is Rodrygo who has been their clutch player, produced five goals to help Real Madrid reach the Final.

For Liverpool, their enviable forward line has to operate on the night.

Mo Salah is the 9/2 first goalscorer favourite, despite not having had the greatest second half to the season* (odds recorded at 00:21 GMT on May 27th, 2022 at Paddy Power).

Sadio Mane has been more influential for the Reds since the turn of the year and is a 13/2 option in the same market* (odds recorded at 00:21 GMT on May 27th, 2022 at Paddy Power). The goalkeeper quality of Allison is going to be a huge asset for Liverpool.
