Can England and Wales progress?

Wales did a fantastic job of getting out of their group, a feat which they had been underdogs to pull off.

They had been up against Turkey, Italy and Switzerland.

The Welsh, with some great shows of unity and determination, claimed second place to advance and get a Round of 16 tie against Denmark.

It’s certainly not the worst of draws for them.

As for England, who haven’t set the tournament alight despite having had the home advantage at Wembley, will meet old foes Germany.

After the close of the Group Stage, England have moved to a 13/2 second-favourite* (odds record at 23:20 GMT on June 23rd, 2021 at Bet365).

England v Germany, along with the clash between Belgium and Portugal are the big headline fixtures for this Euro 2020 betting preview.

Euro 2020 Betting Preview Round of 16

Next for this Euro 2020 betting preview, we are going to take a look at all eight matches that are scheduled for the Round of 16.

Our betting experts will also predict the outcome of each of the fixtures.

Euro 2016 Round of Sixteen Draw:

The top half of the draw for Euro 2020 is now absolutely stacked.

Belgium, Portugal, Italy, France, Spain and Croatia are in that top half along with the lesser threat of Austria and Switzerland.

Down in the bottom half, the draw loooks to have worked out fairly well for the Netherlands and the winner of the big England v Germany match.

Our betting prediction:
England To Win Euro 2020
13/2

Wales v Denmark – Saturday 26th June 17:00 (Amsterdam)

Wales are one of the first teams in action on Saturday as they face Denmark in the Round of 16.

For Euro 2020 betting, Wales are 9/2 underdogs for this game* (odds record at 23:20 GMT on June 23rd, 2021 at Bet365).

Being the underdogs isn’t going to bother Robert Page’s side, as they look full of commitment.

On their Euro 2016 remember they defied the odds time and again to reach the semi-finals.

Wales played out a 1-1 draw with Switzerland in the group stage, before coming up big in a 2-0 win over Turkey.

A 1-0 loss against Italy, playing a big chunk of the second half with 10-men was no disgrace either.

Denmark overcame a sticky start, losing against Finland and Belgium, to rally themselves for a crucial 4-1 win over Russia to scrape through somehow in second place.

They look direct but nothing that Wales should be daunted by, especially on neutral territory.

Wales v Denmark Head to Head

The two recently met in the 2018 Nations League, Denmark winning both games. Denmark are W3 L2 in the overall head to head with Wales.

Wales v Denmark Euro 2020 betting Prediction

We have a hard time seeing this one get settled over 90 minutes. The Welsh are good enough to quiet the threat of the Danes.

Draw 90 minutes at 23/10* (odds record at 23:20 GMT on June 23rd, 2021 at Bet365).

Italy v Austria – Saturday 26th June 20:00 (London)

It’s fair to say that Italy have so far looked like the best team at Euro 2020. They powered their way to a group stage win.

Italy won all three matches, averaging more than two goals per game to get through to the knockout phase.

The Azzurri are now on an eleven-game winning streak and they haven’t conceded a single goal in that sequence.

The Italians have scored at least two goals in 10 of their last 11 as well.

Austria are big underdogs for Euro 2020 betting on Saturday.

They beat North Macedonia and Ukraine in the group stage to get through.

But a 2-0 loss against the Netherlands looks a bigger indicator for this one.

The Austrians never laid a glove on the Dutch, who don’t even look great in defence.

Italy v Austria Head to Head

Italy dominates the head to head with Austria, holding an undefeated W4 D1 record against them. Three of those wins for the Azzurri were by a 1-0 scoreline.

This is the first meeting between the two since a 2008 friendly.

Italy v Austria Euro 2020 Betting Prediction

This should be Italy all the way. Austria don’t look to have the tools to crack a brilliant Italian defence, nor keep the Azzurri attack quiet.

Italy to win to nil at 6/5* (odds record at 23:20 GMT on June 23rd, 2021 at Bet365)

Euro 2020 Draw First Quarter

  • Belgium v Portugal
  • Italy v Austria

Netherlands v Czech Republic – Sunday, 27th June 17:00 (Budapest)

There has been plenty of entertainment from the Dutch so far at Euro 2020.

They were one of three teams (Italy & Belgium) to qualify for the knockout stage with a 100% record in the group stage.

The Netherlands, beat Austria, Ukraine and North Macedonia, tallying 8 goals across those fixtures.

The Dutch look to have plenty in attack, but at the same time look vulnerable to giving up chances defensively.

The Czech Republic will be happy with their four points in the Group Stage which came from a win over Scotland and a draw against Croatia.

They have looked better than expected so far, quite a hard-working team who are happy to push up the field and press.

They may get their moments against the Netherlands, but this is a big, big ask for them.

The Dutch have now won eight of their last ten matches (D1 L1) and have scored at least two goals in each game of that sequence.

Netherlands Czech Republic Head to Head

The Czech Republic have won their last two visits to the Netherlands and are W5 D3 L3 up in the head to head with the Dutch.

Their most recent meetings were in Euro 2016 qualifiers with the Czech Republic winning both.

Netherlands v Czech Republic Euro 2020 betting prediction

We think the Dutch get away with this one, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Czech Republic get on the scoresheet in an open game.

The Netherlands to win & Both Teams To Score at 11/4* (odds record at 23:20 GMT on June 23rd, 2021 at Bet365)

Belgium v Portugal – Sunday, 27th June 20:00 (Seville)

What a cracker of a match this should be and it’s going to be hard to split these two on the night we feel.

Belgium posted a W2 D1 record from their three group stage matches, and it was far from plain sailing.

After beating Russia 3-0 in their opener, Belgium had to fight back from 1-0 down to beat Denmark, before seeing off Finland with two goals in the final fifteen minutes.

The Red Devils rightly remain as one of the front runners in the tournament. Belgium are undefeated in 12 games, winning 10 of those.

Portugal were full of goals in the Group Stage, thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo. He’s in goalscoring form so the reigning champions have a chance.

After beating Hungary, Portugal lost a lead against Germany to lose their second match, before playing out a thrilling 2-2 draw against France to get through. They don’t look like giving up their crown easily.

Belgium v Portugal Head to Head

Portugal have won three of their last four games against Belgium. That’s very interesting. Overall in the head to head, Portugal are W3 D2 against the Red Devils, two of those wins being in competitive fixtures.

Belgium v Portugal Euro 2020 betting prediction

Sure they may rely on Ronaldo a lot, but why not? Portugal have actually looked more cohesive and more of an attacking threat than Belgium have at Euro 2020.

Defensively they haven’t been as tight, but we can sniff an upset.

Portugal to win at 21/10* (odds record at 23:20 GMT on June 23rd, 2021 at Bet365).

Euro 2020 Draw Second Quarter

  • France v Switzerland
  • Croatia v Spain

Croatia v Spain Monday 28th June 17:00 (Copenhagen)

This is a very interesting tie. Spain overcame some troubles to thrash Slovakia 5-0 in their final group stage game.

That was after looking really poor up front in their draws against Sweden and Poland. Will that be the result that kick-starts Spain’s campaign?

Croatia got through to the knockouts with a victory over Scotland in their final group stage match. Touches of class from Luka Modric helped out there.

Neither side looked totally convincing and this could be a very tight scrap in Copenhagen.

Spain v Croatia Head to Head

Spain and Croatia met in the 2018 Nations League and traded wins there. That leaves Spain at W4D1 L3 in the head to head with Croatia.

They did meet at Euro 2012 with Spain winning 1-0 thanks to a winner from Jesus Navas two minutes from time.

Spain v Croatia Euro 2020 betting prediction

We think that Spain will keep enough of the ball to eventually grind down Croatia. The Croatians have looked a little leggy at times in the tournament.

It’s hard to make a case for either team winning the tournament, but we plump for the Spaniards.

Spain to win at 4/6 in this one* (odds record at 23:20 GMT on June 23rd, 2021 at Bet365).

France v Switzerland: Monday, 28th June 20:00 (Bucharest)

This looks like being a very favourable draw for tournament favourites France in the Round of 16 at Euro 2020.

The French topped the Group of Death with a W1 D2 record, beating Germany before playing out draws with Hungary and Portugal.

There have been moments when Les Bleus have looked flat, but they are a squad stacked with match winners.

This is not the sort of game that you would expect to see them slip up in.

France are W7 D3 in their last ten games and they have taken a clean sheet in five of their last seven.

Of the last four goals that France have conceded in international fixtures, two have been from the penalty spot and one an own goal.

Switzerland squeezed through to the Round Of 16 thanks to a 3-1 win over the very disappointing Turkey in their final group stage match.

That was after a draw with Wales and a heavy defeat against Italy.

France v Switzerland Head to Head

Three of the last four meetings have been drawn, with France winning the other one in that sequence.

France are undefeated in their last seven against the Swiss, winning three of those. Their last competitive meeting was at the World Cup 2014 with France winning 5-2.

France also won their previous European Championship meeting, a 3-1 victory at Euro 2004.

France v Switzerland Euro 2020 Betting Prediction

We just see France coasting this. Switzerland just don’t look to be any kind of threat in attack and should get picked off.

France to win to nil at 13/10* (odds record at 23:20 GMT on June 23rd, 2021 at Bet365)

Euro 2020 Draw Third Quarter

  • Sweden v Ukraine
  • England v Germany

England v Germany – Thursday, 29th June 17:00 (London)

The draw for the Round of 16 for England was always going to be a difficult one if they topped their group. They did and it is.

The Three Lions have yet to concede at Euro 2020 which is a huge positive.

The negative is that they have looked extremely light-weight in front of the goal, scoring just twice in the tournament through Raheem Sterling.

This is a great Round of 16 tie against their old rivals Germany.

Who knows what is to come from Die Mannschaft? A loss against France in their opening group stage match put pressure on them.

Then they put in a brilliant attacking performance to smash Portugal 4-2, before scrapping out a 2-2 draw with Hungary to get through.

Germany are not their usual strong selves, but will England be able to find enough creativity to actually lay a glove on them?

England v Germany Head to Head

The last competitive meeting between England and Germany was at the 2010 World Cup. England lost 4-1.

At Euro ‘96 England suffered a penalty shootout heartbreak against the Germans before getting revenge four years later with a 1-0 win thanks to Alan Shearer.

Germany are W7 D3 L6 in the head to head with England. Troublingly perhaps, England have failed to score in three of their last four against Germany.

England v Germany Euro 2020 Betting Predictions

It feels like one of those games doesn’t it. One that is not going to be settled in 90 minutes.

Germany are a threat having scored six goals in their last two games. England are better at the back and we see tense drama all day.

Draw 90 Minutes at 21/10* (odds record at 23:20 GMT on June 23rd, 2021 at Bet365).

Euro 2020 Draw Fourth Quarter

  • Netherlands v Czech Republic
  • Wales v Denmark

Sweden v Ukraine: Tuesday, 29th June 20:00 (Glasgow)

Sweden upset the odds to win Group E ahead of Spain thanks to kicking things off with backs to the wall defensive effort against the Spaniards.

A stoppage-time winner over Poland in their final group stage match dramatically saw them earn the top spot.

This looks like a decent draw for them in the round of sixteen. They face one of the best third-place finishers, Ukraine.

Ukraine managed only three points from a win over North Macedonia to just scrape through, despite a -1 goal difference.

They don’t look like a huge threat. Ukraine have won three of their last dozen games, those successes happening against Northern Ireland, Cyprus and now North Macedonia.

Sweden v Ukraine Head to Head

Ukraine are W2 D1 L1 in their last four against Sweden. Their one competitive meeting happened at Euro 2012 with Ukraine winning 2-1.

Sweden v Ukraine Euro 2020 Betting Prediction

Sweden have won five of their last six games (D1) and even though they haven’t faced a lot of quality in that run, can be pleased with their progress.

They should be confident enough to sneak this.

Sweden to win at 11/8* (odds record at 23:20 GMT on June 23rd, 2021 at Bet365)
