Sevilla v Leicester Betting Preview – UEFA Champions League 22nd February 7.45pm

Leicester’s debut season in the UEFA Champions League saw them make fantastic headway as they topped their group with games to spare. Now things head up as they face their toughest challenge yet when they head out to Spain on Wednesday night to take on Sevilla. Leicester are in a world of mess that moment and they may have their hands full in just trying to stay in this tie to have something to play for back at the King Power. Sevilla go as strong favourites for the first leg win, however, they have failed to progress in both of their previous round of 16 ties in the UEFA Champions League. Can Leicester produce another amazing European night?

Sevilla v Leicester Betting Tips

Sevilla have yet to make it through to the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League but they have landed the kind of draw which should help them make that breakthrough. Their only previous occurrence of making it to the last eight of one of Europe’s elite club competitions was back in 1957/58. It’s been some wait. Sevilla won five of their seven games played in Europe at home during the 2016 calendar year and one of those defeats happened against Juventus, so you can excuse that one really. Overall they are ticking along in great form, pushing on in the title race in La Liga and they have won eight and drawn two of their last 12 games played in all competitions. That sequence included taking a home win over Real Madrid, snapping Madrid’s massive 40 match unbeaten streak of form across all competitions. Sevilla have been to the round of 16 twice before in the Champions League, losing out against Fenerbahce in 2008 and CSKA Moscow in 2010 at this stage.

Back in the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League, Sevilla lost 3-1 at home against Man City, their first home loss against an English side in the competition. Sevilla have lost three of their four Champions league games against English sides, their only win coming on home soil against Arsenal. Their defence was immense in the group stage of this season’s competition as they conceded in just one of their six games played and Sevilla to win to nil at Bet365 is trading at a tempting 21/20 quote. Sevilla have a great home record in the Champions League, which is another reason why they are favourites for the game. They have won 10 of their 14 Champions League games at home (D1 L3) and have scored in each of those games in that sequence. Both teams to score in his one is a price of 11/10 with Bet365 and in the anytime goalscorer market, Wissam Ben Yedder and Luciano Vietto are 20/21 favourites for the game.

Not an easy game for Leicester, particularly because of their horrible form at the moment. Jamie Vardy is their shortest priced  option at 10/3 in the anytime goalscorer market but he has had two shots on target in his first 424 minutes in the Champions League – none of them have found the back of the net. Leicester have never before made it past Christmas in European competition before and they did pretty well in their group stage it has to be said, although it was probably the weakest group there. Leicester took two clean sheets in a W1 D1 L1 record on the road. The Foxes have won only one of their four previous two-legged European ties and two of their three previous European campaigns were ended by Spanish opposition (Atletico Madrid twice).

Leicester only netted seven goals in the group stage, which was the joint-lowest tally from the stage along with Sevilla actually. Under 2.5 goals at Bet365 will return you a price of 19/20 on the match up and that looks very probable. Leicester are just a mess at the moment and they were dumped from the FA Cup against Millwall on the weekend as well, leaving them with just two wins in their 11 games in all competitions since match day six of the Champions League. The Foxes have failed to score in six of their last eight games now and are on an eight match winless streak at the moment. It’s been shocking poor stuff from the English Champions and with Sevilla going so well on the domestic front, the Foxes are likely to struggle in this one.

Sevilla v Leicester Predictions

Hard to find any kind of reason to back Leicester to take a win in this one. The Foxes are just slacking at the back and don’t have the firepower to compete at the moment. Sevilla are enjoying huge progress this season and they are likely to pull out a first leg advantage. Look for the 2-0 correct score in favour of the home side or just back them to go out and win this one to nil because they are likely going to outclass their English opposition.
